View dealThe BMW iX3 is a five-seat electric SUV. It sits in BMW's electric line-up as the family-sized choice: roughly 4.78 metres long, with a 520-litre boot and braked towing up to 2,000 kg.
There's one body style, one electric powertrain family covering rear- and all-wheel drive, and three trims: the iX3 entry model, M Sport and M Sport Pro. So the real decision is battery size, driven wheels and how much visual and comfort kit you want.
Road testers have been unusually united on this one. The praise lands on how it drives, how quickly it charges and how far it goes between charges; the grumbles tend to be about a firm ride and a cabin that asks you to learn a new way of doing things.

The iX3 is BMW's electric SUV: five seats, five doors, a 520-litre boot with the rear seats up and 1,750 litres with them folded, backed by a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty and an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty.
Rear passengers get good space for the car's size. Reviewers consistently single out the steering and body control, describing a heavy car that doesn't feel heavy, and they rate the efficiency highly - up to 4.2 miles per kWh on the best version.
The criticisms are worth knowing too: the ride is firm on poor surfaces, and the screen-led cabin takes a few days to click. Euro NCAP awarded five stars, with 95% for safety assist.
Because the standard specification is strong enough that you don't have to option your way to a usable car. Every iX3, in every trim, has adaptive cruise control, heated and electrically adjustable front seats with memory, a powered tailgate, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Driver assistance is comprehensive across the range: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, self-steering parking, a rear-view camera and front and rear parking sensors. A 360-degree camera, automatic parking assist and a retractable towbar are available as options on every trim.
On a lease, that matters more than it does on a purchase. You're paying for the specification you order for the whole term, and extras chosen at build cannot be added later. Servicing is every 24 months, and the car carries a tyre repair kit rather than a spare.
There's only one type of iX3 - electric - but it spans a range of battery capacities and both rear- and all-wheel drive, so the version you choose changes range, pace and charging speed considerably.
Batteries run from 86.9 kWh to 113.4 kWh, power from 319 bhp to 463 bhp, and WLTP range up to 493.4 miles on the longest-legged version. Drive is automatic, rear- or all-wheel, with 0-62 mph in 4.9 to 5.9 seconds depending on version.
Charging is the headline. At 400 kW, the best version goes from 10-80% in 21 minutes, and a 22 kW home or workplace supply fills it from empty in 5.5 hours. Our guide to charging an electric car explains what that means in practice if you're new to EVs.
| Electric | |
|---|---|
| Boot | 520 litres |
| Power | 319–463 bhp |
| Seats | 5 |
| Battery | 86.9–113.4 kWh |
| 0–62 mph | 4.9–5.9 s |
| Braked towing | 2000 kg |
| Electric range (WLTP) | 385.9–493.4 miles |
All three trims share the same core equipment, so the choice is mostly about wheels, lighting and cabin trim rather than whether you get the tech you need.
The entry car gets 20-inch Light Star Spoke alloy wheels ("Star Spoke Style 1045"), LED headlights, BMW Panoramic iDrive, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, roof rails, cloth upholstery and manual passenger airbag deactivation with camera. The entry version has 319 bhp and rear-wheel drive. Deals for this trim come and go, so ask our team what's available.
M Sport swaps in 20-inch M Aerodynamic bicolour alloy wheels and adds ambient lighting with a translucent instrument panel and dynamic lighting, plus Alcantara and leather upholstery. Massaging front seats and other comfort options are available here. The M Sport is currently available from £686.89 a month.
M Sport Pro builds on M Sport with adaptive LED headlights, and adds massaging front seats, front sports seats, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights. A fixed panoramic glass roof, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel remain options. The M Sport Pro is currently available from £700.55 a month. Against the M Sport, that is currently £13.66/mo more expensive.
