View dealThe Alfa Romeo Stelvio is a five-seat premium SUV built for people who still care how a car steers. It's Alfa Romeo's larger SUV, sitting above the brand's smaller models, and it takes the mechanical recipe of a sports saloon and raises the ride height.
One body style, one fuel: a petrol engine driving all four wheels through an automatic gearbox, with 276 to 513 bhp depending on the version. Everyday trims are Sprint and Veloce, and the 513 bhp Quadrifoglio sits above them.
It suits a driver who wants something other than the usual German badge on the drive, and who will trade a little ride comfort for steering that actually talks back. If that's you, the choice below is a short and pleasant one.

The Stelvio is a petrol SUV with five seats, a 525-litre boot with the rear seats up and 1,600 litres with them folded, backed by a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty. It is about 4.69 m long, so it parks like a normal family car.
It was Alfa Romeo's first SUV, and it shares its underpinnings with the brand's sports saloon. Reviewers consistently praise the handling, the quick steering and the looks, and are consistently less kind about cabin materials and the firm ride, especially on the larger wheels.
Braked towing runs to 1,600 kg, and every version is all-wheel drive, which helps on a wet slipway or a muddy field gateway.
Because the standard specification is generous and the equipment you'd actually miss is fitted across the range. Every Stelvio gets adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, a powered tailgate, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless phone charging.
Safety kit is standard throughout too: autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, a rear-view camera and front and rear parking sensors. Dual-zone climate control, LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers and an auto-dimming mirror are also fitted to every version.
Practically, you get 5 doors, a 2.82 m wheelbase, a 64-litre fuel tank and a tyre repair kit rather than a spare. Servicing falls due every 12 months or 9,000 miles, which is worth diarising against your contract mileage.
There's one answer here, which makes life simple: petrol only, automatic only, all-wheel drive only. No plug, no charging, no hybrid battery to think about.
Power runs from 276 bhp to 513 bhp, with 400 to 600 Nm of torque, through an eight-speed automatic to all four wheels. Engines are 2.0 to 2.9 litres, four or six cylinders. WLTP economy is 23.9 to 33.2 mpg and CO2 is 192 to 267 g/km, so high-mileage motorway drivers should do the fuel sums first.

Sprint and Veloce cover everyday driving; Quadrifoglio is the performance version. All three are all-wheel drive, and Sprint and Veloce both start at 276 bhp.
Sprint brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a sport leather steering wheel, a rear-view camera with dynamic grid lines, front and rear parking sensors and a wireless charging pad, on 19-inch "5 Hole" alloy wheels with cloth upholstery. An electric sunroof, heated front seats and a retractable towbar are among the factory options.
The Sprint is currently available from £716.42 a month.
Veloce adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory and front sports seats, over the Sprint. It moves to 20-inch "5 Petal" alloys and leather upholstery; the sunroof and retractable towbar remain options. Do note the bigger wheels firm up the ride.
The Veloce is currently available from £712.00 a month. Against the Sprint, that is currently £4.43/mo cheaper. Best value
Then there's the performance Stelvio. The 513 bhp Quadrifoglio reaches 62 mph in 3.8 seconds and runs to 176 mph, with a leather-wrapped dashboard and upper door trim, heated front seats, a Harman Kardon sound system, a hands-free tailgate and sports seats. It rides on 20-inch "5 Hole" alloys, and the sunroof is optional.
The Quadrifoglio is currently available from £1,308.74 a month. Against the Veloce, that is currently £596.75/mo more expensive.
Paint choice runs to seven colours across the range, including Alfa red, Etna red, Misano blue, Montreal green, Banchise White, Vesuvio grey and Vulcano black. Our guide to choosing your car covers how to match trim, mileage and term before you order.
If you're cross-shopping, the Porsche Macan is the obvious driver's rival, while the Audi Q3, BMW X2 and BMW X1 sit a size below. More from the brand is on our Alfa Romeo leasing page.
