The Volkswagen Taigo is a five-seat small SUV with a sloping, coupe-style roofline, sold in the UK in this form since 2021. It sits among Volkswagen's compact SUVs as the style-led option.
It's petrol only: 94 to 148 bhp, manual or automatic, front-wheel drive. At 4.27 m long with a 440-litre boot, it suits couples, commuters and smaller families who want a raised driving position without a bulky car on the drive.
The choice is simple enough - one body style, petrol engines, and four trims: Life, Match, Black Edition and Style. Volkswagen no longer lists the Taigo in its UK price list, so the versions below are available while stocks last.

The Taigo is Volkswagen's compact coupe-SUV: a five-seat, five-door car of 4.27 m long, 1.76 m wide and 1.52 m tall, carrying a 440-litre boot with the rear seats up. Every version is petrol and front-wheel drive.
Reviewers consistently describe it as comfortable, easy to drive and better packaged than the shape suggests - the extra length over Volkswagen's boxier small SUV goes into the rear overhang, so the sloping tailgate costs you very little luggage space. Road testers are less enthusiastic about the steering feel and some of the cabin plastics.
Volkswagen covers it with a three-year or 60,000-mile warranty, a three-year paintwork guarantee and a 12-year anti-corrosion guarantee, with servicing due every 12 months or 9,300 miles.
Because the standard kit is generous for a small SUV and the running costs are modest. Every Taigo gets adaptive cruise control, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, roof rails and DAB digital radio.
Safety is a strong point. The Taigo holds a five-star Euro NCAP rating, with 94% for adult occupant protection, 84% for child occupants, 71% for vulnerable road users and 70% for safety assist, and autonomous emergency braking plus automatic high beam are fitted across the range.
On the practical side: five seats, a 440-litre boot, a 10.7 m turning circle and braked towing from 1,000 kg up to 1,200 kg depending on the version. WLTP economy runs from 47.9 to 53.3 mpg, and insurance groups span 13 to 24. A tyre repair kit is supplied rather than a spare wheel, which is worth knowing before you order.
There's only one to weigh up: petrol. Nothing here needs plugging in, and there's no diesel or hybrid in the range, so the decision is about how much power and which gearbox you want.
Power runs from 94 bhp to 148 bhp, from 1.0- to 1.5-litre engines with 3 or 4 cylinders, with manual or automatic gearboxes and front-wheel drive. Expect 0-62 mph in 8.2 to 11.1 seconds and 47.9 to 53.3 mpg. Lower-powered versions suit town and commuting; the stronger ones make more sense if you do regular motorway miles.

Four trims, and the gap between them is mostly wheels, lighting and comfort kit rather than how the car drives. All four use cloth upholstery and the same front-wheel-drive petrol engines.
The entry trim, on 16-inch "Everett" alloys, with a leather-trimmed gear knob, predictive adaptive cruise control, wireless charging, ambient lighting with logo projection and an 8-inch digital cockpit display. It also has front and rear parking sensors, self-steering parking, LED headlights and air conditioning. The Life is currently available from Price on request a month.
Match moves up to 17-inch "Clayton" alloys with anti-theft wheel bolts and adds a rear-view camera, keyless locking and starting with safelock, dynamic road sign display and privacy glass. This one leans on looks: 18-inch "York" alloys in black, plus interior ambient and surround lighting. It also brings heated front seats, matrix LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, front sports seats and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Style pairs adaptive cruise control and dynamic road sign display with 17-inch "Aberdeen" alloys, and adds the parking and driver-assistance kit: self-steering parking, front and rear sensors, active lane-change assist and traffic sign recognition.
