There's a lot to like in the Peugeot 2008 with lots of space and performance to impress. Based on the 208 supermini, the 2008 is a tad longer and wider to offer practicality and style.
The Peugeot 2008 has low running costs thanks to its wide range of petrol and diesel engines. There's a choice of a 1.6 litre diesel and a 1.2 litre petrol engine with each having three power outputs along with a choice of five or six speed manual gearboxes. There is an automatic transmission available but just for one model.
The diesel engines offer power and refinement and drivers should find that the 1.6 litre BlueHDi 100 which has 98 bhp will return 79 mpg. The petrol engines are also impressively frugal too with the 1.2 litre PureTech 110 producing 107 bhp and returning 60 mpg. This engine is also a decent performer and will sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just under 10 seconds. Economy for the 2008 is boosted by stop-start.
Based on the 208, the Peugeot 2008 is a compact SUV crossover that offers low running costs, equal to that of its supermini sibling. The car does not come with four-wheel-drive, which some drivers may miss, but it does come with 'grip control' to help prevent the front wheels from spinning on slippery surfaces such as sand, snow and mud.
Not that many drivers will miss the four-wheel-drive, it's a comfortable and enjoyable car to drive around town. The vehicle grips the road and the steering is responsive. As with most Peugeot's, the 2008 comes with lots of equipment as standard including cruise control and air conditioning with other models having alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, dual zone air conditioning and rear parking sensors.
Essentially, the Peugeot 2008 offers a comfortable ride in a practical and well-designed vehicle. There's lots of space for everyone on board and the large boot is useful.
