View dealThe Volkswagen T-Roc is a five-seat petrol SUV built for everyday family use: 4.37 metres long, with a 475-litre boot and a raised driving position that makes town work and parking easier than in a conventional hatchback.
In Volkswagen's SUV line-up it sits below the larger family models, offering much of their cabin quality in a car that still fits a normal parking space. It carries a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and a 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
The choice is refreshingly simple. One body style, one engine family - a 1.5-litre turbo petrol with 114-148 bhp, automatic and front-wheel drive - and four trims: Life, Match, Style and R-Line.

The T-Roc is a compact SUV with hatchback manners: five seats, five doors, 475 litres of boot space with the rear seats up, and a 2.63-metre wheelbase that gives adults usable room in the back. The current T-Roc is the second-generation car.
Reviewers consistently praise the interior quality, the hush at motorway speed and the sheer ease of living with it. The common criticism is that it's competent rather than thrilling to drive, and that ride comfort suffers on the largest wheels.
It's also a proven design rather than an experiment - the T-Roc has been one of Volkswagen's biggest sellers in Europe for years, and it has won small SUV awards in the UK.
Because the standard kit list is strong enough that you don't have to climb the range to get a well-equipped car. Every T-Roc has adaptive cruise control, wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, LED headlights, roof rails and an electric parking brake.
Safety is the same story. Every version gets autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beam, plus front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera. Euro NCAP awarded 5 stars, with 91% for adult occupant protection.
On the practical side, braked towing runs from 1,300 kg up to 1,500 kg depending on version, the roof will take 75 kg, and the turning circle is 11.1 m. There's a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel, which is worth knowing before you order.
There's one engine to choose from, in two power outputs, so the decision is about how much performance you want rather than how you'll fuel the car.
A four-cylinder petrol with a 7-speed automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive - nothing to plug in, nothing to charge. Official economy is 47.1-50.4 mpg with CO2 of 127-130 g/km, 0-62 mph takes 8.9-10.6 seconds depending on output, and insurance groups run from 14 to 20.

| Boot | 475 litres |
| Power | 114–148 bhp |

| 0–62 mph | 8.9–10.6 s |

Four trims, and the jump from Life to Match is the one that changes the car most.
Life rides on 17-inch "Lima" alloys with cloth upholstery, and adds a digital instrument cluster, air conditioning, paddle shifters, dynamic road sign display and a front camera for distance control to the standard kit. Heated seats, navigation, keyless entry and a panoramic roof are all available as options. The Life is currently available from £259.30 a month.
Match starts at 148 bhp and moves to 18-inch "Torino" alloys, adding built-in navigation, heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with paddle shift, privacy glass and voice control for phone and navigation. Ambient lighting, keyless entry and self-steering parking remain options. The Match is currently available from £336.36 a month. Against the Life, that is currently £77.06/mo more expensive.
Style is the comfort-focused choice: massaging front seats, keyless locking and starting with safelock, three-zone climate control, self-steering parking, interior ambient lighting with 30 colour options and leatherette inserts on the door and side trim panels. Matrix LED headlights are optional. The Style is currently available from £283.34 a month. Against the Match, that is currently £53.02/mo cheaper. Best value
R-Line starts at 148 bhp and is the sportier-looking version, with 18-inch "Coventry" alloys, front sports seats and sports suspension. It's the only trim on which adaptive suspension is offered, and matrix LED headlights and massaging front seats are available as options. The R-Line is currently available from £277.58 a month. Against the Style, that is currently £5.76/mo cheaper. Best value
A Tech Pack is offered as an add-on to a trim rather than a trim in its own right, and availability varies by version. If you're weighing wheels, packs and options against monthly cost, our guide to choosing your lease car is a sensible place to start.
If you're shortlisting, the Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Tucson, Škoda Kodiaq and BMW X1 are worth a look, and you can see the rest of the range on our Volkswagen leasing page.
