The Porsche Cayenne SUV is the big, square-backed version of Porsche's large five-seat SUV, and it's the one to choose if you want the driving manners of a Porsche without giving up boot space or towing ability. It measures 4.93 m long and carries between 621 and 772 litres behind the rear seats, depending on the version.

In Porsche's line-up it sits above the smaller Macan and below the Panamera for outright practicality, doing the job of a family car, a long-distance cruiser and a tow car in one body. This is the third-generation Cayenne, on sale in this form since 2023.

The choice is simpler than the badge suggests: one body style on this page, two powertrains (Petrol or Plug-in hybrid), three everyday trims and two performance versions. We'll take each in turn.

About the Porsche Cayenne SUV

The Cayenne SUV is a five-seat, five-door luxury SUV with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox on every version, sold with a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty.

It matters historically because it more or less invented the performance SUV, and reviewers still treat it as the benchmark for how a two-tonne-plus 4x4 should steer and change direction. The praise is consistent: sharp handling for the size, a cabin with genuinely excellent materials, and clear, quick screens.

The criticism is consistent too. On the standard steel springs and the biggest wheels, testers find the ride firmer and busier than some rivals, which is why air suspension keeps coming up as the upgrade people recommend. Euro NCAP awarded it five stars, with 91% for adult occupant protection.

Cayenne SUV or Cayenne Coupe?

The SUV is the practical one. It carries 621-772 litres with the seats up against the Cayenne Coupe's 434-592 litres, and 1,557-1,708 litres folded against the Coupe's 1,344-1,502 litres.

Both are 4.93 m long on the same 2.90 m wheelbase, so there's no difference in footprint. The SUV stands 1.67-1.70 m tall to the Coupe's 1.65-1.68 m, seats five where the Coupe seats four or five, and takes a 100 kg roof load rather than 75 kg. Braked towing runs to 3,500 kg either way. If you'd rather see both together, the full Cayenne range is here.

Why lease a Porsche Cayenne SUV?

Because the standard specification is strong enough that you aren't forced up the range to get the useful kit, and because a lease keeps you in a car whose technology is moving quickly without you carrying the risk of what it's worth in three years.

Every Cayenne SUV gets matrix LED headlights, a 360-degree camera, self-steering parking, heated and electrically adjustable front seats with memory, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and a hands-free tailgate. Lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition and autonomous emergency braking are standard too.

Practically, it tows up to 3,500 kg braked and 750 kg unbraked, turns in 12.1 m, and carries a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel. Servicing is every 24 months or 20,000 miles.

Which Cayenne SUV powertrain is right for me?

Two choices: petrol, or a plug-in hybrid you charge at home.

Petrol

A 3.0 to 4.0-litre engine of six or eight cylinders, 348-493 bhp, eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. No plug, no charging routine, 0-62 mph in 4.4-5.7 seconds. WLTP economy of 23.3-26.4 mpg is the trade-off, and it's the version with the 772-litre boot.

Plug-in hybrid

A 25.9 kWh battery (21.8 kWh usable) paired with the petrol engine for 464-729 bhp and 0-62 mph in 3.7-4.9 seconds. It charges at up to 11 kW, which fills the best version from 0-100% in around two hours on a home AC charger. Worth it if you can plug in regularly; less so if you can't.

Which Cayenne SUV trim should I choose?

Start with what you want as standard rather than how much power you want.

Cayenne entry model

The 348 bhp starting point, on 20-inch "Cayenne" alloys with cloth and leather upholstery. It already has Android Auto, leather door panels and central armrests, heated front seats, active parking assist with the 360 camera, and a power tailgate with gesture control. Adaptive cruise, a panoramic roof and heated rear seats are all available as options.

Black Edition

Same 348 bhp underneath, but a lot more standard equipment: a fixed panoramic roof, self-steering park assist and adaptive cruise control, plus 21-inch "Rs Spyder" alloys, full leather, privacy glass, active lane-change assist, a heated steering wheel and air suspension. A retractable towbar and four-zone climate are on its options list.

S

The S is about the engine, not the equipment list. It brings 468 bhp, 20-inch "Cayenne S" alloys and cloth and leather trim, with adaptive cruise, a panoramic roof, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel available as options.

Then come the two performance versions.

GTS

493 bhp of petrol power, the sharpest-edged Cayenne in the everyday sense of the word. Over the S it adds a heated steering wheel, air suspension and front sports seats, on 21-inch "Rs Spyder" wheels. Massaging and ventilated front seats stay optional.

Turbo

The 729 bhp plug-in hybrid, 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds, on 21-inch "Cayenne Turbo" alloys with leather upholstery. Against the entry model it adds heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and air suspension, and blind-spot monitoring is an option.

Not every trim has a live deal at any given moment. Availability changes constantly, so check the deals below or ask our team.

Similar cars to consider

If you're weighing the Cayenne SUV against other large 4x4s, the Audi Q8, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Land Rover Defender and INEOS Grenadier are the ones customers tend to shortlist alongside it. You'll find the rest of the range on our Porsche leasing page.

Porsche Cayenne SUV FAQs

Yes, for a family of up to five. It has five seats and five doors, a boot of 621-772 litres depending on version, and a five-star Euro NCAP rating with 89% for child occupant protection.

It will drive perfectly well without charging, but you lose the point of it. The 25.9 kWh battery (21.8 kWh usable) charges at up to 11 kW, taking around two hours from 0-100% on the best version. Our electric and hybrid leasing guides cover how that works day to day.

Between 621 and 772 litres with the rear seats up, and 1,557 to 1,708 litres folded. The petrol versions give the larger figure at 772 litres; the plug-in hybrids give 621-627 litres because the battery takes up space under the floor.

It can. Braked towing is 3,000-3,500 kg depending on version, with the petrol rated at 3,500 kg, and 750 kg unbraked. Check the towbar is specified on your chosen build before you order: on Black Edition, for example, a retractable towbar is a factory option.

Three years with unlimited mileage, which suits high-mileage lease drivers. The paintwork guarantee runs three years and the anti-corrosion guarantee twelve. Plug-in hybrid batteries are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles, and servicing falls due every 24 months or 20,000 miles.

It depends entirely on what's available at the time, and it isn't always the version with the lowest list price. The deals listed below are for the SUV body only and are the accurate picture on the day you look. Our guide to choosing your car helps with term and mileage.

Specifications from Porsche's UK data and Euro NCAP; equipment, insurance groups and availability vary by version, so check the individual deal before ordering.
