Engines and performance for the Mercedes GLC
The Mercedes GLC features a four-cylinder 2.0 litre diesel engine producing either 194 HP or 245 HP. The engines also produce plenty of torque to deliver performance and grip with a top speed of either 134 mph or 144 mph. Fuel economy is around 40 mpg with emissions of 145g/km. All of the engines are mated to the firm's impressive nine-speed automatic transmission.
Equipment and handling
Launched in 2019, the Mercedes GLC delivers an impressive driving experience and its spacious cabin is a lovely place to spend time in, particularly on long motorway journeys. It's a nice car to drive around town with responsive engines and plenty of equipment to impress. Along with the saloon, the GLC is available as an AMG Line or AMG Line Premium which deliver better performance and more equipment. The 'Hey Mercedes' voice activation system is installed along with smartphone connectivity. There's also active parking assist with reversing camera and a 10.25-inch touchscreen display. There's a 5.5-inch instrument cluster screen along with privacy glass and 18-inch alloy wheels. The comfortable ride is down to the 'agility control comfort suspension', while the AMG models offer sport suspension with selective damping, exterior body styling and sport seats for when drivers want to put the car through its paces. The top spec models come with a surround sound system, panoramic glass roof, 20-inch alloy wheels and a 'keyless-go' comfort package. As usual, there are various options such as a driving assistance package which includes active steering assist, evasive steering assist and active braking assist which features a cross traffic warning function and active speed limit assist. Not only is the Mercedes GLC an attractive car to look at, it is also comfortable to drive though the 20-inch alloys may have an impact on comfort levels for some drivers but overall around town and on country lanes the car always feels well planted - thanks to the 4x4 system - and the engines deliver great performance when necessary. Essentially, the Mercedes GLC offers a well-designed and well-made offering in the SUV segment and for those who like a comfortable car that is fun to drive and is practical too, then the GLC will meet just about every need.
