View dealThe Lexus RX is a five-seat luxury SUV that puts quiet, cosseting comfort ahead of sporting sharpness. It's 4.89m long, all-wheel drive on every version, and it never needs a diesel-style compromise: every RX is electrified.
It sits at the heart of Lexus's SUV line-up, above the smaller models and below the brand's biggest seven-seaters. If you want a third row, the RX isn't your car - it's a strict five-seater, with a 612-litre boot behind those seats.
The choice is simple enough: one body style, two powertrains (Hybrid and Plug-in hybrid), and four trims running from Premium to Takumi, plus the 366bhp F-Sport for anyone who wants more pace.

The RX is Lexus's long-running luxury SUV, and the current car is the fifth generation of it, on sale in this form since 2022. It's the quiet alternative to the obvious German badges.
Reviewers consistently praise the same things: a hushed cabin, a supple ride at speed, seats you can sit in for hours, and build quality that feels built to outlast the contract. The common criticism is equally consistent - it isn't a car that rewards being hurried, and the infotainment takes some learning.
Practically, it's 5 seats, 5 doors, a 612-litre boot with the rear seats up and 1,678 litres with them folded, and up to 2,000kg of braked towing. Euro NCAP awarded it 5 stars, with 90% for adult occupant protection. The manufacturer warranty runs 3 years or 60,000 miles.
Leasing suits the RX because you get the newest version of a car that's about comfort and kit, with a fixed monthly cost, and hand it back before any of the running-cost questions become yours. Every version is well equipped from the start.
Standard across the range: adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, powered tailgate, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-zone climate control, privacy glass, roof rails and ambient lighting.
Safety kit is generous too - autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors and automatic high beam are fitted to every RX. Servicing is every 12 months or 10,000 miles, and there's a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel, which is worth knowing before you order.
Two choices: the self-charging Hybrid, which never needs a cable, and the Plug-in hybrid, which does its best work if you can charge it at home. Both are automatic and all-wheel drive.
A 2.4-2.5-litre petrol engine with a small 1.3-1.4kWh battery that tops itself up as you drive. Power runs from 203bhp to 366bhp depending on version, 0-62mph takes 6.2 to 8.3 seconds, and WLTP economy is quoted at 34.9-44.1mpg. No charging, no planning - it just works.
A 2.5-litre petrol engine with an 18.1kWh battery and 288bhp, good for 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds. It charges at up to 7-11kW, and the best version takes 1.7 hours from 0-100% at 11kW.

All five trims are generously equipped, so the decision is usually about wheels, seat comfort and how much technology you want on the dashboard rather than basic kit.
The entry version starts at 288bhp with all-wheel drive, on 19-inch "5 Wide Spoke" alloys with artificial leather upholstery. It brings triple projector headlights, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, a heated steering wheel, a driver monitor camera and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. A detachable towbar is available as an option. The Premium is currently available from £625.81 a month.
Over the Premium, this adds 21-inch "20 Spoke" machined alloys, leather upholstery, a head-up display, a 360-degree panoramic view monitor, heated and ventilated front seats with electric memory, a leather steering wheel, hands-free tailgate and active lane-change assist. The Premium Plus is currently available from £690.58 a month.
This one is about looks rather than extra kit: it takes the Premium Plus specification and swaps in 21-inch "10 Spoke" gloss black alloys, keeping the leather upholstery and a detachable towbar on the options list. The F-Sport Design is currently available from £662.70 a month. Against the Premium, that is currently £36.89/mo more expensive.
From 288bhp, on 21-inch "20 Spoke" dark premium alloys. Against the Premium it adds a 360-degree panoramic view monitor, suede door panel finishes, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, an opening panoramic roof, self-steering parking and adaptive suspension. The Takumi is currently available from £724.04 a month. Against the F-Sport Design, that is currently £61.34/mo more expensive.
Then there's the performance RX.
The quick one, a 366bhp Hybrid with four-wheel steering and adaptive suspension to sharpen up a car that's otherwise built for wafting. Over the Premium Plus it adds triple projector headlights, suede door panels and intelligent park assist, on 21-inch "10 Spoke" alloys. The F-Sport is currently available from £942.64 a month. Against the Premium Plus, that is currently £252.06/mo more expensive.
Three option packs sit on top of a trim rather than replacing one: the Sunroof Pack (sunroof with manual sunblind), the Pan Roof Pack (panoramic electric tilting/sliding glass roof with electric sunblind) and the Takumi Pack, which adds that panoramic roof plus heated, ventilated and electrically adjustable rear seats. If you're weighing up the RX, it's worth a look at the Volvo XC90, the Chery Tiggo 9, the Mazda CX-80 and the Kia Sorento. More from the brand sits on our Lexus leasing page.
