The Lexus LBX is the smallest SUV Lexus makes: a 4.19m self-charging hybrid with a cabin that feels like a much bigger, pricier car. This page explains the single hybrid powertrain, the seven trims from Urban to Takumi Design, and who the LBX genuinely suits.

View dealThe Lexus LBX is a compact five-seat SUV with a self-charging hybrid engine and an interior built to a standard you'd normally pay far more for. It's the entry point to the Lexus range, and at 4.19 metres long it's a compact choice.
It suits drivers who want premium quality without the bulk: town and suburban driving, a couple or a family with younger children, and anyone downsizing from a bigger SUV who isn't ready to go fully electric.
The choice is simple. One body, one hybrid powertrain with front- or all-wheel drive, and seven trims from Urban up to Takumi Design.

The LBX is Lexus's small luxury SUV: five seats, five doors, a boot of 317 to 402 litres depending on the version, and a three-year or 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty. It carries a five-star Euro NCAP rating.
Reviewers consistently single out the cabin as the car's strongest suit, describing it as the most upmarket interior in the small-SUV class, with proper physical climate controls and a solid, well-damped feel to everything you touch.
The criticism is equally consistent: rear legroom is tight for adults, and the three-cylinder engine gets vocal if you press on. Drive it gently, the way it's set up to be driven, and it's quiet and easy.
Because the standard kit list is generous from the entry trim up, and because a small footprint with a premium cabin is a rare combination. Every LBX gets built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, and a digital instrument cluster.
Safety equipment is standard across the range too: autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, plus front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera. Euro NCAP awarded five stars, with 82% for adult occupant protection and 83% for child occupant protection.
Practically, a 10.4-metre turning circle and 4.19 metres of length make it straightforward in multi-storey car parks. It'll tow up to 750 kg braked, and the spare is a tyre repair kit rather than a wheel - worth knowing before you order.
There's only one, so the decision is really front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Both use the same self-charging hybrid system with an automatic gearbox.
A 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine works with an electric motor and a 1 kWh battery for 134 bhp. You never plug it in - the battery tops itself up as you drive and brake. It's automatic, does 0-62 mph in 9.2 to 9.6 seconds, and returns 58.8 to 62.7 mpg on the WLTP test with CO2 from 102 g/km. Front- or all-wheel drive.

Seven trims, all with the same 134 bhp hybrid, so you're choosing comfort, cabin finish and driver-assistance kit rather than performance.
The entry trim, on 17-inch alloys with cloth upholstery. It brings single-bulb LED headlights with auto high beam, cloud navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, a leather steering wheel, a rear-view camera and climate control. The Urban is currently available from £313.15 a month.
Premium keeps the 17-inch alloys but switches to artificial leather trim, and adds heated front seats, driver's lumbar support, single-colour ambient lighting and a synthetic leather steering wheel. Wireless phone charging, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, privacy glass, sports front seats and an auto-dimming mirror come too. The Premium is currently available from £359.46 a month. Against the Urban, that is currently £46.31/mo more expensive.
This one moves to 18-inch alloys and adds a head-up display, so your speed sits in your eyeline, plus a powered tailgate. Everything else carries over from Premium. The Premium Plus is currently available from £382.45 a month. Against the Premium, that is currently £22.99/mo more expensive.
A look-focused version of the Premium Plus rather than a kit upgrade: perforated tahara synthetic leather upholstery with red stitching, on the same 18-inch alloys. The Premium Plus Design is currently available from £394.13 a month. Against the Premium Plus, that is currently £11.68/mo more expensive.
Vibrant Edition moves to leather upholstery and adds a three-spoke leather-trimmed steering wheel, multi-colour ambient lighting and eight-way electrically adjustable front seats with memory, plus paddle shifters. The Vibrant Edition is currently available from £399.56 a month. Against the Premium Plus Design, that is currently £5.44/mo more expensive.
The most technically equipped trim. Adaptive high beam, a panoramic view monitor giving a 360-degree view, a heated leather steering wheel, intelligent park assist with self-steering parking, and active lane-change assist. Handy if you park in tight city bays. The Takumi is currently available from £419.50 a month. Against the Vibrant Edition, that is currently £19.93/mo more expensive.
Takumi equipment with a suede door panel finish and a leather and artificial leather cabin - again, a change of character rather than extra technology. The Takumi Design is currently available from £421.98 a month. Against the Takumi, that is currently £2.48/mo more expensive.
A Bi-tone Pack is offered as an add-on if you want a contrasting roof, and there are nine paint colours across the range, from Cement grey and Sonic white to Passionate yellow and Ruby. Our guide to choosing your spec is worth five minutes before you commit.
If the LBX is close but not quite right, the Hyundai Kona offers more rear space and several powertrains, the Renault Captur covers similar ground with a style-led cabin, and the Dacia Duster takes a plainer, more rugged approach. You'll find the rest of the range on our Lexus leasing page.
