View dealThe Land Rover Discovery Sport is a 4.60-metre family SUV built around space rather than speed, with five or seven seats depending on the version and all-wheel drive on every one. It sits below the full-size Discovery and Defender in Land Rover's line-up, as the practical, squared-off option rather than the fashionable one.
It suits families who want a high driving position, a properly usable back seat and genuine off-road hardware, and who would rather have a boot that swallows a buggy than a low roofline. Braked towing runs up to 2,500 kg on the strongest diesel versions.
The choice is simple enough: one body style, two powertrains - a 2-litre diesel or a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid - and five trims, from Dynamic S up to Metropolitan.

The Discovery Sport is the compact member of the Discovery family: 4.60 m long, 1.73 m tall, and offered with five or seven seats. This is the current, second-generation car, on sale in this form since 2023.
Reviewers consistently praise the cabin quality, the commanding driving position and the ride comfort, and they rate its off-road ability as well beyond what most family SUVs manage. The common criticism is that it isn't quick or especially sharp to drive - it's a comfort-first SUV, and it doesn't pretend otherwise.
Boot space runs from 115 litres with every seat in use up to 780 litres in the most accommodating layout, and 1,451 to 1,574 litres with the rear seats folded. Every version comes with a 3-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty.
Because the standard kit list is generous across the whole range, and because leasing keeps you in a car that's covered by its 3-year, unlimited-mileage warranty for the life of most contracts. Every Discovery Sport is all-wheel drive, automatic and well equipped from the entry trim up.
Every version gets heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and privacy glass.
On safety, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist and traffic sign recognition are standard throughout, along with front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera - useful on a car that's 2.17 m wide across the mirrors, with an 11.8 m turning circle.
Two choices, and the deciding factor is whether you can charge at home. The diesel suits high-mileage drivers and towing; the plug-in hybrid suits shorter daily journeys and company car drivers. Both are automatic and both drive all four wheels.
A 2-litre four-cylinder with 161 to 201 bhp, a 9-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. WLTP economy is 41.7 to 42.7 mpg, 0-62 mph takes 8.6 to 10.6 seconds, and braked towing is 2,200 to 2,500 kg. Nothing to plug in - the choice for long motorway runs and heavy trailers.
A 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol with a 12.0 kWh battery, 265 bhp, an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. It's the quicker car, at 7.4 seconds to 62 mph. You'll want a home charger: 0-80% takes 84 minutes at 7 kW, or 30 minutes at 32 kW on the best version. Braked towing is 1,600 kg.
