The Fiat 600 is a small five-seat SUV built around style, town-friendly dimensions and a straightforward choice of powertrain. At 4.17 metres long it slots above the 500 in Fiat's range, offering five doors and a boot of 360 to 385 litres depending on version.

It suits drivers who want the character of a Fiat with more usable space than a city car - couples, small families, and anyone whose driving is mostly urban with the occasional longer run. Reviewers consistently describe it as comfortable and easy in town rather than sharp on a back road.

The choice is simple: one body style, a 1.2-litre turbo petrol or a 54 kWh electric version, and four trims - Pop, Icon, La Prima and Sport.

About the Fiat 600

The 600 is Fiat's compact SUV: five seats, five doors, 4.17 m long, 1.78 m wide and a 2.56 m wheelbase. It carries a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty, with an eight-year anti-corrosion guarantee alongside it.

The 600 name is a genuine piece of Fiat history, first used in the 1950s on a small family car that predated the 500. The current car leans on that heritage with retro detailing and bright paint - twelve colours across the range, from Cappuccino cream and Ocean green to Acid green and Sunset orange.

Road testers reliably praise the ride comfort, the light steering and the physical climate controls, and they're equally consistent that rear legroom is tight for adults and that this is a car chosen with the heart. Boot space runs from 360 litres in the electric version to 385 litres in the petrol, or up to 1,256 litres with the rear seats folded.

Why lease a Fiat 600?

Because every 600 arrives well equipped, and leasing keeps you in a car covered by its original manufacturer warranty throughout. Standard kit across the range includes keyless entry and start, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control and LED headlights.

The safety and assistance list is the same on every version too: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers and an electric parking brake.

Practically, it's a 10.5 m turning circle and a 44-litre fuel tank on the petrol - small-car numbers in an SUV shape. Petrol versions can tow up to 1,100 kg braked, which covers a small caravan or a trailer. Servicing falls every 24 months or 16,000 miles, and the spare is a tyre repair kit rather than a wheel, which is worth knowing before you order.

Which 600 powertrain is right for me?

There are two: a 1.2-litre turbo petrol or a 54 kWh electric drivetrain. Both drive the front wheels, and the deciding factor is usually whether you can charge at home or at work.

Petrol: 1.2-litre turbo

A three-cylinder turbo petrol producing 99 to 143 bhp, available with a manual or an automatic gearbox. WLTP economy runs from 49.6 to 58.9 mpg with CO2 of 109 to 130 g/km. It's the choice if you can't charge at home, or if you need the 1,100 kg braked towing capacity.

Electric: 54 kWh battery

A 154 bhp electric motor with 260 Nm, automatic, and a WLTP electric range of up to 254 miles. It needs charging - the best version takes 20-80% in 27 minutes at 100 kW, or a full charge in 5.8 hours at 11 kW. Our electric car guide covers the basics if you're new to it.

Which 600 trim should I choose?

Four trims, and the jump most customers weigh up is Pop to Icon for the bigger screen and camera, then Icon to La Prima for the comfort and driver-assistance kit.

Pop

The entry trim, and a well-judged one. It has 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a two-spoke synthetic leather steering wheel with audio controls, rear parking sensors, keyless go and cloth upholstery. The Pop is currently available from £288.80 a month.

Icon

Icon adds the 10.25-inch Uconnect touchscreen with built-in navigation and DAB, front and rear parking sensors with a 180-degree rear-view camera, a wireless charging pad and passive entry with keyless go. An auto-dimming rear-view mirror comes too. The Icon is currently available from £298.96 a month. Against the Pop, that is currently £10.15/mo more expensive.

La Prima

La Prima moves to 18-inch diamond cut alloys and Cannelloni Eco leather seats, heated and massaging up front, with electric driver's seat adjustment. It adds 360-degree parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop & go and lane centring, blind-spot monitoring, privacy glass, a hands-free tailgate and power-folding mirrors. The La Prima is currently available from £279.02 a month. Against the Icon, that is currently £19.93/mo cheaper. Best value

Sport

Sport is about appearance rather than extra equipment: 18-inch black sport alloy wheels and Sport Eco leather and soft-touch fabric upholstery over the La Prima's kit. If you like the darker look, it's the one. The Sport is currently available from £283.25 a month. Against the La Prima, that is currently £4.22/mo more expensive.

Fiat 600 FAQs

It works well for a couple or a small family. There are five seats and five doors, but at 4.17 m long with a 2.56 m wheelbase the rear is better suited to children and child seats than to three adults on a long trip.

Between 360 and 385 litres with the rear seats up, depending on version - the electric 600 has 360 litres, the petrol 385. Fold the rear seats and you get 1,231 to 1,256 litres.

Up to 254 miles on the WLTP test, from the 54 kWh battery (51 kWh usable), with official efficiency of 4.1 miles per kWh. Rapid charging peaks at 100 kW, and on the best version 20-80% takes 27 minutes.

Petrol versions can tow up to 1,100 kg braked. Check the towing limit on the individual version you're ordering, and tell us before the order goes in if you need a towbar fitted, since that has to be specified up front on a lease car.

Three years with unlimited mileage, plus a three-year paintwork guarantee and eight years against corrosion. The electric version's battery is covered for eight years or 60,000 miles, guaranteeing 70% of its capacity.

It depends entirely on what's available at the time, and it moves as pricing is refreshed. The entry Pop trim is currently from £288.80 a month. Check the live 600 deals below, and our guide to choosing your car covers how term and mileage affect the figure.
