View dealThe CUPRA Formentor is a five-seat family SUV with coupe-influenced styling, and it's the car that turned CUPRA from a badge on hot SEATs into a brand in its own right. It's about 4.45 m long, so it sits in the same space as a mainstream family crossover, but it looks and drives rather differently.
It suits a driver who needs family-sized practicality and doesn't want to give up on the way a car feels down a decent road. Boot space runs from 345 to 450 litres depending on version, and braked towing goes up to 1,700 kg.
One body style, then two decisions: Plug-in hybrid or Petrol, and a trim from V1, V2 and Tribe Edition, or one of the performance versions - VZ1, VZ2, VZ3 and VZ5.

The Formentor is CUPRA's coupe-styled SUV, and the first model the Spanish brand built purely for itself rather than adapting from a SEAT. The current Formentor has been on sale in this form since 2024.
Reviewers consistently praise how it drives - sharp steering, tidy body control and a level of composure most family SUVs don't bother with - while noting that putting nearly every cabin function into the touchscreen makes some adjustments fiddly on the move. Five seats, a 345 to 450-litre boot depending on version, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and a five-year, 90,000-mile manufacturer warranty give it a sensible side to go with the styling.
Because it gives you a genuinely interesting-looking family SUV on a fixed monthly rental, with the warranty covering the whole of a typical lease term. Every Formentor is a five-seater with a footprint of around 4.45 to 4.48 m, so the practical basics don't change much with your choice of version.
Standard kit from V1 upwards includes 18" Sonora machined silver alloy wheels, LED headlights, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a leather multi-function steering wheel and front and rear parking sensors. The 5-star Euro NCAP rating applies across the range, and braked towing of up to 1,700 kg on suitable versions covers a small caravan or a trailer.
The questions our team gets asked most about this car are about charging and mileage rather than the car itself - worth thinking through before you order, because both are written into the contract.
Two choices: a plug-in hybrid if you can charge at home and do mostly short trips, or petrol if you can't or you want the performance versions. The petrol is offered across the whole range, including the VZ performance versions, while the plug-in hybrid is available on V1, V2 and Tribe Edition.
A 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 25.8 kWh battery, producing 201 to 268 bhp, automatic and front-wheel drive. It's the one to have if you've got a driveway and a charger - plug it in overnight and short local trips can run on electricity. Without regular charging you lose the point of it.
Petrol Formentors span 148 to 385 bhp, with manual or automatic gearboxes and front- or all-wheel drive depending on version. This is the straightforward choice for high-mileage drivers and anyone without home charging, and it's where the VZ performance versions sit.

V1, V2 and Tribe Edition cover everyday family use, while the VZ versions add performance and equipment. Here's what each one brings.
Currently available from £297.96 a month.
The starting point, and far from bare. You get 18" Sonora machined silver alloy wheels, LED headlights, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a leather multi-function steering wheel and front and rear parking sensors. Enough for most family drivers who want the look without a long options conversation.
Currently available from £317.50 a month. Against the V1, that is currently £19.54/mo more expensive.
V2 builds on V1 with a leather dashboard, door insert and side trim panel, heated front seats, a rear view camera, KESSY Advanced keyless entry and electrically adjustable heated and folding door mirrors with memory. The comfort additions most people notice day to day.
Currently available from £378.78 a month. Against the V2, that is currently £61.28/mo more expensive.
Tribe Edition takes V2 and adds 19" recycled aluminium alloy wheels in black and sulphur green, plus wired Android Auto - the green detailing is still the main idea, and you'll know quickly whether it's for you.
Then come the VZ versions, CUPRA's performance line.
Currently available from £451.57 a month. Against the Tribe Edition, that is currently £72.79/mo more expensive.
VZ1 pairs the 261 bhp petrol engine with matrix LED headlights, a heated steering wheel, adaptive suspension and paddle shifters over Tribe Edition. Think of it as the performance range's entry point: the extra pace and the VZ presentation, without the additional cameras and leather that come further up. Deals for individual versions come and go, so ask our team if you can't see one below.
Currently available from £487.16 a month. Against the VZ1, that is currently £35.59/mo more expensive.
Also 261 bhp petrol, and VZ2 adds a leather pack, a top view camera and intelligent park assist over VZ1. The parking kit matters more than it sounds on a car this shape - the rear screen is shallow and the styling costs you some visibility.
Currently available from £524.50 a month. Against the VZ2, that is currently £37.33/mo more expensive.
VZ3 keeps the 261 bhp petrol engine and adds 19" Hailstorm forged machined R black and copper alloy wheels, a leather dashboard, door insert and side trim panel, and electrically adjustable front seats with lumbar support and memory. The best-appointed of the 261 bhp cars.
Currently available from £701.05 a month. Against the VZ3, that is currently £176.56/mo more expensive.
The 385 bhp flagship, and a very different animal - road testers describe it as the most characterful Formentor CUPRA has built. Over VZ3 it adds 20" copper alloy wheels, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and front and rear parking sensors. Supply is limited, so availability changes; ask us what's around.
If you like the size but want something more conventional, the Škoda Karoq, Nissan Qashqai and Volkswagen Tiguan all cover similar ground, while the Škoda Kodiaq is the option if you need more room. The rest of the range sits on our CUPRA leasing page.
