View dealThe Citroën C5 Aircross is a five-seat family SUV that puts comfort ahead of sportiness. It's Citroën's largest and most senior model, a 4.65-metre car aimed squarely at families who spend real time in their car rather than throwing it at a B-road.
Road testers consistently praise the same two things: the deeply padded seats and the soft, absorbent ride. The flip side, equally consistently noted, is that it leans in corners and the steering tells you little. If that trade-off sounds right, you're the buyer Citroën had in mind.
One body style, three powertrains - petrol, plug-in hybrid or electric - and three trims: You, Plus and Max. That's the whole decision.

The C5 Aircross is Citroën's flagship SUV: five seats, five doors, a 565-litre boot with the rear seats up and 1,668 litres with them folded. The current C5 Aircross is the second generation, on sale in this form since 2025.
Comfort is the brand's long-standing calling card, and reviewers agree this car delivers it - supple suspension, quiet motorway manners and seats that make three hours feel like one. Cabin plastics come in for criticism in places, and Euro NCAP awarded four stars rather than five, with 80% for adult occupant protection and 85% for child occupants.
Every version comes with a three-year, 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty, and electric versions add an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty guaranteeing 70% of capacity.
Because the standard kit list is generous and the practical numbers stack up for family use. Every C5 Aircross gets adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and rear parking sensors.
Driver assistance is standard across the range too, including traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, rain-sensing wipers and an electric parking brake. At 4.65 m long and 1.94 m wide, with a 10.9 m turning circle, it's a big car that doesn't feel unwieldy in a supermarket car park.
Towing matters to some families: braked towing runs from 1,000 kg up to 1,550 kg depending on the version, so check the figure for the exact one you're ordering. A detachable towbar is a factory option on all three trims - worth specifying at order, because it can't be added later on a lease car.
All three are automatic and front-wheel drive, so the real question is whether you can charge at home.
The 1.2-litre turbo three-cylinder makes 143 bhp and never needs plugging in. It's the simplest choice: 53.3 mpg on the official WLTP test, 0-62 mph in 11.2 seconds, 1,000 kg braked towing. Unhurried, but fine for school runs and the odd long trip.
A 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine plus a 21 kWh battery, 222 bhp in total, and much the quickest of the three at 8.3 seconds to 62 mph. It charges at up to 7 kW, taking about 2.9 hours from empty to full on the best version. Only worth it if you'll actually plug it in.
Two battery sizes, 79.9 kWh or 100.7 kWh, giving 210-228 bhp and a WLTP range of up to 421 miles on the longest-legged version. Rapid charging peaks at 160 kW, which is 20-80% in 27 minutes at best. Our electric car guide covers the charging basics if this is your first EV.

Three trims, and the differences are mostly about parking aids, driver assistance and seat comfort rather than performance.
The entry trim, on 18-inch Carbon alloy wheels with cloth upholstery. It brings LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, a multifunction leather-effect steering wheel with shift paddles, air conditioning, the safety pack without the driver attention camera, and rear parking sensors. The You is currently available from £338.48 a month.
Plus moves to 19-inch Andromeda diamond-cut alloys and adds front parking sensors with a 180-degree rear camera, proximity keyless entry and start, manual driver lumbar adjustment, privacy glass, ambient lighting, power-folding mirrors and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Blind-spot monitoring and a heated steering wheel are options here. The Plus is currently available from £351.62 a month. Against the You, that is currently £13.14/mo more expensive.
Max adds the Drive Assist Pack 2.0 with a heated steering wheel, VisioPark 360-degree cameras and an extended head-up display, plus matrix LED headlights, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and active lane-change assist. A panoramic roof, ventilated and massaging front seats and heated rear seats are all options. The Max is currently available from £374.05 a month. Against the Plus, that is currently £22.43/mo more expensive.
If you're cross-shopping, the Nissan Qashqai is the obvious mainstream family SUV alternative, the BYD Sealion 7 and Volkswagen ID.4 are electric-only rivals, and the CUPRA Formentor takes a sportier line. More from the brand sits on our Citroën leasing page.
