The BYD Seal is BYD's electric saloon, offered with an 82.5 kWh battery, 308 to 523 bhp and up to 354 miles of WLTP range. This page explains who it suits and how to choose between the Design and Excellence versions before you look at the live lease deals.
The BYD Seal is a five-seat electric saloon, and the car that sits at the sharper end of BYD's UK line-up. One battery, one body, two versions - so the decision here is refreshingly small.
It suits drivers who want a low, sleek four-door rather than another crossover: company car drivers, commuters with home or workplace charging, and couples or small families who don't need a hatchback boot opening.
Every Seal uses the same 82.5 kWh battery with an automatic transmission, in rear- or all-wheel drive, from 308 to 523 bhp, with up to 354 miles of WLTP range. Trims are Design, plus the performance Excellence.

The Seal is BYD's electric saloon: 4.80 m long, five seats, a 485-litre boot and a 6-year / 93,750-mile manufacturer warranty. It arrived in the UK in 2023, and the current Seal remains the most driver-focused car the brand sells in the UK.
Reviewers consistently rate it as BYD's most convincing model, praising the styling, the plush cabin materials and a chassis that feels composed on a motorway and genuinely enjoyable on a country road. It carries a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.
The criticism is just as consistent: the touchscreen buries too many functions, so it's fiddly to use on the move, and road testers note that rear headroom is tight for taller adults. Saloon boot access differs from a hatchback's, so it's worth checking it suits what you carry.
Because the Seal is generously equipped as standard, which keeps the choice simple and the specification consistent whichever version you take. Both versions share the same battery, the same 485-litre boot and the same five-seat cabin.
Design brings 19" twin colour aluminium alloy wheels on 235/45 R19 tyres, LED headlights, a navigation system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a panoramic roof. Safety and assistance kit underpins that 5-star Euro NCAP result, and the Seal can tow a braked trailer of up to 1,500 kg.
For leasing customers, the long 6-year / 93,750-mile warranty is worth a thought: on a typical three- or four-year contract, the car stays covered throughout. If you're new to electric cars, our electric car guide covers charging and the jargon.
There's only one to weigh up, so the real question is whether an electric saloon fits your week.
The 82.5 kWh battery gives 308 to 523 bhp and up to 354 miles of WLTP range, with an automatic gearbox and rear- or all-wheel drive. There's no petrol back-up, so you'll need charging you can rely on - ideally at home or at work. Range varies across the line-up depending on version.
| Electric | |

| Boot | 485 litres |
| Power | 308–523 bhp |
| Seats | 5 |
| Battery | 82.5 kWh |
| 0–62 mph | 3.8–5.9 s |
| Braked towing | 750–1500 kg |
| Electric range (WLTP) | 323–354 miles |
Two choices, and equipment barely separates them - power and drive layout do.
Design is the rear-wheel-drive Seal. You get the 19" twin colour alloys, LED headlights, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the panoramic roof. For most drivers it's all the car they need. The Design is currently available from £357.38 a month.
Then there's the performance Seal.
Excellence is the 523 bhp all-wheel-drive version, and it's seriously quick - the kind of acceleration that makes slip-road merges a non-event. Over Design it adds a head up display; otherwise the kit is much the same. Excellence is currently available from £343.38 a month. Against the Design, that is currently £14.00/mo cheaper. Best value
If the Seal isn't quite the shape or size you need, the BYD Dolphin is the smaller hatchback from the same maker, while the CUPRA Born, CUPRA Raval and Nissan Leaf are all worth a look. More from the brand sits on our BYD leasing pages.
