View dealThe BMW iX2 is a five-seat electric SUV with a steeply raked roofline, sitting among the smaller cars in BMW's electric line-up. One body style, one battery size and three trims keep the decision refreshingly simple.
It suits a driver who wants a compact premium EV with real road presence, charges mostly at home or at work, and doesn't need the very last word in rear headroom. Road testers consistently praise the cabin quality and motorway refinement, and just as consistently note a firm ride.
Your choice comes down to two things: 201 bhp front-wheel drive or a more powerful all-wheel-drive version, and which of the three trims - Sport, M Sport or Shadow Edition - suits you. The 66.5 kWh battery, the SUV body and the 525-litre boot are common to all of them.

The current iX2 is the electric member of BMW's second-generation X2 family, on sale in this form since 2023. It is the style-led alternative to BMW's more upright small SUVs, and it's sold here only as a battery-electric car.
At 4.55 m long it's a compact car by modern standards, yet the boot holds 525 litres with the rear seats up and 1,400 litres with them folded. Reviewers rate the interior finish and the hushed motorway manners highly, while noting that the sloping tail costs rear headroom and over-the-shoulder visibility. Every version comes with a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty, with the battery covered for eight years or 100,000 miles.
Because the standard specification is generous enough that you don't have to chase options to get a well-equipped car, and because a lease keeps you inside the manufacturer warranty for the whole contract - which matters on a car with a large drive battery.
Every iX2 has heated front seats, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, a hands-free tailgate, LED headlights and a wi-fi hotspot. Safety kit is standard across the range too: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera. Euro NCAP awarded the car five stars, with 92% for safety assist and 88% for child occupant protection.
Worth knowing before you order: the spare is a tyre repair kit, and servicing falls due every 24 months.
There's only one to pick from, and it's electric - so the real question is how much power and whether you want all-wheel drive. All versions are automatic, and all share the same 66.5 kWh battery.
Power runs from 201 bhp in the front-wheel-drive version up to 309 bhp with all-wheel drive, and 0-62 mph takes between 5.6 and 8.6 seconds depending on which you choose. WLTP range reaches up to 319.4 miles, with efficiency of 4.0 to 4.4 miles per kWh.
Charging is the part worth planning. The fastest versions take 10-80% in 29 minutes at 130 kW on a public rapid charger, and a full charge takes 3.8 hours at 22 kW on the best-equipped version. If you can plug in overnight at home, this car makes easy sense; if you can't, read our guide to charging an electric car before you commit.

Three trims, and the gaps between them are smaller than you might expect: Sport covers the essentials, M Sport changes the chassis and the wheels, and Shadow Edition adds a darker look.
Sport rides on 17-inch Style 864 Star Spoke alloy wheels with cloth upholstery, and starts at 201 bhp with front-wheel drive. Smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, a gear display in the instrument cluster and electrically adjustable heated door mirrors are all included, along with a powered tailgate and self-steering parking.
The Sport is currently available from £417.18 a month.
M Sport brings the M leather steering wheel, 19-inch Style 871 M Double Spoke alloys, part leather upholstery, front sports seats and both adaptive and sports suspension. Given how much reviewers talk about the ride, the adaptive dampers are worth a test drive before you decide.
The M Sport is currently available from £414.96 a month. Against the Sport, that is currently £2.22/mo cheaper. Best value
Shadow Edition takes the M Sport and adds automatic high beam and privacy glass. It keeps the 19-inch Style 871 M Double Spoke wheels and part leather trim, so this one is mostly about the look rather than a long list of extra equipment.
The Shadow Edition is currently available from £543.29 a month. Against the M Sport, that is currently £128.33/mo more expensive.
On any trim you can add factory options including adaptive cruise control, a fixed panoramic glass roof, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory and rear cross-traffic alert. There are also packs to consider - the 22kWCh Pack, Tech+ Pack, Tech+/22kW packs and Tech/Pro packs - and nine paint colours across the range, from Alpine white to Cape York green. Options change what's available to order, so check the individual deal.
If you're weighing up the iX2 against other electric SUVs, it's worth a look at the BYD Sealion 7, the Volkswagen ID.4, the OMODA 5 and the Ford Explorer. You'll find the rest of the range on our BMW leasing pages.
