BMW 3 Series Lease Deals

The BMW 3 Series is BMW's compact executive car, offered as a saloon or an estate with petrol or plug-in hybrid power. This page explains the body styles, powertrains and trims so you can decide which version to lease.

The BMW 3 Series is the compact executive car that most rivals are still measured against: five seats, rear-biased handling, a saloon or estate body, and a badge that carries weight on a driveway or in a client car park.

It sits in the middle of BMW's saloon range, above the smaller 2 Series and below the 5 Series, and it's aimed at drivers who want family-sized space without moving to an SUV. Reviewers consistently rate it as the most rewarding car to drive in its class.

The choice is refreshingly simple. Two bodies (Saloon and Estate), two powertrains (Petrol or Plug-in hybrid), three everyday trims (Sport, M Sport and M Sport Pro) and a run of 387 bhp performance versions above them.

About the BMW 3 Series

The 3 Series is BMW's long-running compact executive model, now in its seventh generation, on sale in this form since 2022. It carries five people, tows up to 1,800 kg braked, and comes with a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty.

Road testers reliably praise the steering, the body control and the cabin quality, and note that the ride is firmer on the sportier trims and larger wheels. The boot runs from 375 to 500 litres depending on which version you pick, and at about 4.71 m long the car stays easy to place on a British B-road.

It has also earned a reputation for working well as an everyday family car, not just a quick one.

3 Series body styles

Two shapes, same car underneath. The Saloon is the classic four-door executive shape; the Estate adds a longer roofline and a more usable load area. Both seat five and share powertrains, trims and the same 4.71 m footprint.

Saloon

The four-door saloon is the cleaner-looking of the two and the one most company car drivers picture. You give up the estate's square load space and easy roof access, but not rear legroom or driving manners.

Estate

The estate gives you a wider, taller opening and a boot you can actually load flat-packs into, without changing how the car drives. It's the sensible pick for dogs, buggies and bikes.

Why lease a BMW 3 Series?

Because the standard kit is generous from the entry trim up and the running costs are predictable. The entry Sport trim starts with Connected pro, a three spoke multifunction sport leather steering wheel, heated front seats and cruise control operation in the steering wheel.

Driver assistance is one of the areas reviewers single out: BMW's lane-keeping and cruise systems are described as working quietly in the background rather than fighting you. Parking aids arrive from M Sport upwards as part of the parking assistant pack.

On a lease, the three-year unlimited-mileage warranty usually covers the whole contract, so your monthly rental plus fuel or charging, insurance and tyres is close to the full picture. Worth thinking about wheel size and specification before you order, though: bigger wheels look better and tend to be the first thing to pick up kerb damage that shows at the end of contract.

Which 3 Series powertrain is right for me?

Two answers here: a plug-in hybrid if you can charge at home or at work, or a straight petrol if you can't be bothered with a cable. Both are automatic.

Plug-in hybrid

A 2-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 22.3 kWh battery, making 288 bhp, automatic and rear-wheel drive. It needs plugging in to be worth having, so it suits drivers with off-street or workplace charging and short daily runs, with the engine there for longer trips.

Petrol

Petrol power from 181 bhp up to 387 bhp, automatic throughout, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive available depending on version. No charging, no routine to change, and the lower-powered engines are still quick enough for most drivers. Higher mileage motorway users often prefer this.

Which 3 Series trim should I choose?

Most drivers land on M Sport or M Sport Pro, but the entry Sport already covers the kit that matters day to day. Here's what each one brings, in the order BMW lists them.

Sport

The starting point, and no hardship: Connected pro, a three spoke multifunction sport leather steering wheel, heated front seats and cruise control operation in the steering wheel. The Sport is currently available from £489.05 a month.

M Sport

M Sport swaps in the 3 spoke M Sport multifunction flat bottom leather steering wheel and adds the parking assistant pack, which is the one to have if you park in tight city bays. It's currently available from £487.58 a month, and against the Sport the difference is currently £1.46/mo cheaper.

M Sport Pro

M Sport Pro builds on M Sport with Adaptive LED Headlights. It's currently available from £527.63 a month. Against the M Sport, that is currently £40.04/mo more expensive.

M340i

Now the performance versions. The M340i has 387 bhp of petrol power and the effortless, deep-chested delivery testers rave about, plus ambient light design projected onto the left and right entering and exiting area and electric memory seats over M Sport Pro. It's currently available from £731.68 a month. Against the M Sport Pro, that is currently £204.05/mo more expensive.

Black Edition

Same 387 bhp Petrol performance, with Adaptive LED Headlights added over the M340i. The name tells you the rest: this one is mostly about the darker look. It's currently available from £783.65 a month. Against the M340i, that is currently £51.97/mo more expensive.

M340i Black Edition

An edition of the M340i, again with 387 bhp and Adaptive LED Headlights, dressed in the darker exterior treatment. It's currently available from £787.75 a month. Against the M340i, that is currently £56.08/mo more expensive.

Beyond the trims, optional packs can fill gaps: the Tech Pack adds a navigation system, the Pro Pack adds Adaptive LED Headlights, and the Tech/Pro packs combination adds both. Which packs are available on a given build varies, so check the deal you're looking at. Our guide to choosing your car covers how to weigh spec against term and mileage.

BMW 3 Series FAQs

Yes, for families of four or five who don't need a third row. It seats five, the boot runs from 375 to 500 litres depending on version, and reviewers rate rear space as adequate for adults. The Estate is the easier shape for buggies and dogs.

To get the best from it, yes. The Plug-in hybrid pairs a 2-litre turbo with a 22.3 kWh battery, and it only delivers low running costs if you plug it in regularly. Our electric and hybrid guides explain charging at home.

It can tow up to 1,800 kg braked, which covers most mid-sized caravans and a twin-axle trailer. The towing capacity and whether a towbar can be fitted vary by version, so confirm both before you order.

A three-year manufacturer warranty with unlimited mileage. On a typical lease term that means warranty cover for most or all of your contract, whatever your annual mileage, which is one less variable to worry about.

On the Plug-in hybrid, the Estate often costs about the same per month as the Saloon like for like at the moment. A rental reflects the gap between the car's cost and its forecast value at the end of the term, plus interest, so a version that holds value better can cost less per month despite a higher list price. That can change when pricing is refreshed.

It depends entirely on what's available at the time. Body, powertrain and trim all move independently, and the cheapest version this week isn't always the cheapest next month. Compare the live rentals in our BMW 3 Series deals, or ask our team what's on offer.
