View dealThe BMW 2 Series Saloon is the four-door, five-seat member of the 2 Series family: a compact premium saloon measuring 4.55 m long, with a boot of 360 to 430 litres depending on version and a petrol engine driving the front or all four wheels.
It suits drivers who want a BMW badge and a proper boot lid without stepping up to a 3 Series, and who'd rather have a low, saloon-shaped car than another small SUV. Rear headroom is the trade-off for that sloping roofline.
The choice here is simple. One body, petrol only from 168 to 296 bhp with a seven-speed automatic gearbox, and three versions to pick from: M Sport, M Sport Pro and the 296 bhp M235.

This is BMW's smallest saloon, sitting below the 3 Series in the range. The current 2 Series Saloon has been on sale in this form since 2024.
Reviewers consistently praise the cabin quality, the driving position and how willing the engines feel, while criticising the touchscreen-led controls and a ride that stays firm at low speeds. Rear headroom draws comment too, for the same reason the car looks good from the side.
Practically, it carries five people, has a boot of 360 to 430 litres with the rear seats up depending on version, and comes with a three-year manufacturer warranty with no mileage limit. Service intervals are every 24 months or 18,000 miles.
The Saloon is the four-door, five-seat choice with a separate boot. Pick it over the other two if you want rear doors and a saloon shape rather than a tailgate or a two-door body, and can live with a sloping roofline over the back seats.
The 2 Series Coupe is a four-seat, two-door car with a 390-litre boot, a lower 1.39-1.40 m roof and braked towing up to 1,600 kg. The 2 Series Hatchback is shorter at 4.39 m but far taller at 1.57-1.58 m, with five doors, a 406-415 litre boot and 1,370-1,405 litres with the seats folded. The Saloon tows up to 1,300 kg braked. All three sit on the full 2 Series range page.
Because the standard kit list is unusually full for a compact car, and leasing lets you run one inside the three-year unlimited-mileage warranty and hand it back. Every version gets heated front seats, navigation and adaptive suspension as standard.
Every 2 Series Saloon also has keyless entry and start, a digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, sports suspension, front sports seats, paddle shifters, DAB radio and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. On safety, the car scores four stars from Euro NCAP, with 78% for adult occupant protection and 86% for child occupant protection, and every version carries autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition and self-steering parking.
If you're weighing up mileage, term and spec before you commit, our guide to choosing your car is a sensible place to start.
There's one fuel type here: petrol, from 168 to 296 bhp, always with an automatic gearbox. Nothing to plug in, nothing to charge, and front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive depending on the version you choose.
The petrol range runs from 168 bhp to 296 bhp, with 280 to 400 Nm of torque, 0-62 mph in 4.9 to 7.9 seconds and a seven-speed automatic throughout. Official economy is 37.7 to 53.3 mpg and CO2 is 120 to 170 g/km, from a 1.5 to 2.0-litre three- or four-cylinder engine.

M Sport covers the basics well, M Sport Pro adds adaptive lighting and bigger wheels, and the M235 is the performance version.
The entry version is a 168 bhp front-wheel-drive car on 18-inch M Y Spoke Style 975m alloy wheels, with Alcantara upholstery. It adds park assist with a reversing assistant, lateral parking aid and reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, a gearshift time display in manual mode, cruise control with braking function and a wi-fi hotspot.
Adaptive cruise control, a panoramic roof, massaging and electrically adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging and lane-keep assist are all available as options.
M Sport Pro starts from the same 168 bhp front-wheel-drive mechanicals and adds adaptive LED headlights with high beam assist, automatic high beam and privacy glass, on 19-inch M Y Spoke Style 976m alloy wheels with Alcantara upholstery. The same option list applies.
If you like the look of the smaller wheels, the Tech+ Pack brings the adaptive headlights to M Sport, along with Parking Assistant Plus with active PDC, remote 3D view and drive recorder, a wireless charging tray, head-up display and electrically adjustable, folding and heated door mirrors. The Pro Pack covers the mirrors on their own.
Then there's the performance version. The M235 produces 296 bhp with all-wheel drive as standard, on 18-inch M Y Spoke Style 975m alloy wheels, and adds a 12-speaker Harman Kardon hi-fi system over M Sport Pro. It's quick and stable rather than raw - road testers rate the grip and pace more highly than the steering feel.
