View dealThe BMW 2 Series Hatchback is the practical one in the 2 Series family: five seats, five doors, a tall cabin and a boot of 406 to 415 litres depending on version. It's aimed at people who want a premium badge and a proper family shape rather than an SUV.
At 4.39 metres long it's compact enough for town, and the raised roofline (1.57 to 1.58 metres) gives it far more head and shoulder room than its footprint suggests. Towing runs up to 1,500 kg braked on the right version.
The choice here is simple. One body style on this page, two powertrains - petrol or plug-in hybrid - and three trims: Sport, Luxury and M Sport.

This is the second-generation 2 Series Hatchback, on sale in this form since 2024. It's a five-seat family car with a high driving position, and it covers ground that most premium brands have abandoned in favour of crossovers.
Reviewers consistently praise the cabin: the materials, the curved widescreen display and the sense that it's built properly. The usual criticism is that almost every function lives in the touchscreen, which takes a little learning. Nobody calls it a sports car, and BMW doesn't pretend otherwise - it's tuned for comfort and everyday ease.
Practicality is the point. Boot space is 406 to 415 litres with the rear seats up and 1,370 to 1,405 litres folded, and every version comes with BMW's three-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.
The Hatchback is the practical choice of the three. It seats five, has five doors, carries 406 to 415 litres with the seats up and tows up to 1,500 kg braked - more than the Saloon, though less than the Coupe.
The 2 Series Coupe is the driver's car: two doors, four seats, a 390-litre boot and a body that sits around 1.39 to 1.40 metres tall against the Hatchback's 1.57 to 1.58 metres. The 2 Series Saloon keeps five seats and four doors with a 360 to 430-litre boot, but it's a low saloon at 1.45 metres and tows 750 to 1,300 kg braked.
If you're still weighing them up, the full BMW 2 Series range page covers all three, and our guide to choosing a lease car walks through spec and mileage decisions.
Because the standard equipment list is unusually complete, so you're not forced up the range to get the basics. Every version has heated front seats, a powered tailgate, a digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, LED headlights, ambient lighting and roof rails.
Parking kit is standard throughout too: front and rear sensors, a rear-view camera and automatic parking assist. Safety scored five stars with Euro NCAP, with 88% for adult occupant protection, 81% for child occupant and 92% for safety assist.
On a lease, that matters more than it does on a purchase. You're fixing your spec for the whole contract, so a car that arrives well equipped saves you paying monthly for options you'd otherwise add. Worth checking before you order - the Tech Plus Pack adds BMW's head-up display if you want it.
Two choices: petrol if you'd rather never think about a cable, plug-in hybrid if you can charge at home or at work and want electric running for shorter trips. Both are automatic.
Petrol versions produce 154 to 201 bhp through a seven-speed automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive, with 0-62 mph in 7.0 to 8.1 seconds. Official economy is 47.1 to 49.6 mpg, the boot is 415 litres, and braked towing runs from 1,300 to 1,500 kg. No charging, no planning.
The plug-in hybrid pairs a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a 16.3 kWh battery (14.2 kWh usable) for 242 to 322 bhp, all-wheel drive and 0-62 mph in as little as 5.5 seconds. It charges at up to 11 kW, with the best version going 0-100% in 1.8 hours. The boot is 406 litres.
It only makes financial sense if you actually plug it in, which is worth being honest with yourself about. Our electric and hybrid leasing guides cover how company car drivers typically approach that decision.

Three trims: Sport, Luxury and M Sport. All three start from the same 154 bhp front-wheel-drive version, so the difference is wheels, upholstery and a handful of features rather than performance.
Sport gets 17-inch Star Spoke Style 875 alloys, cloth upholstery, heated front seats, ambient lighting front and rear, the widescreen display and BMW Operating System 9 with smartphone integration. Adaptive cruise control, a panoramic roof, keyless entry and wireless charging are all available as options.
Luxury is about appearance rather than extra kit. You get 17-inch V Spoke Style 833 alloys and artificial leather upholstery in place of cloth, with the same option list as Sport - adaptive cruise, heated steering wheel, electric seat memory, lane-keep assist and the rest.
M Sport is the sportiest-looking of the three: 18-inch Double Spoke Style 838m alloys, Alcantara upholstery, front sports seats, paddle shifters, sports and adaptive suspension. Wireless phone charging and an M sport leather steering wheel come as standard here, and active lane-change assist joins the options list.
We won't rank them by monthly cost. Which trim looks best on a given month's offers depends entirely on what's available at the time - the deals below are all Hatchback, so you can compare like for like.
