BMW X6 gets an impressive refresh

The excellent contract hire BMW X6 has been updated with a raft of improvements as its rivals up their game to match this vehicle.

The revamp follows in the footsteps of the BMW X5 that has also received a facelift but the X6 gets more efficient mild-hybrid technology and an exterior design tweak.

Indeed, these changes are noticeable immediately with a greater front nose presence thanks to the reshaped bumper and there are new LED slim headlights.

BMW has also extended the gloss black paint scheme from the side air intakes to the grille.

BMW X6 car lease mild-hybrid engines

The BMW X6 car lease mild-hybrid engines means that every one of the diesel and petrol model choices now has a mild-hybrid addition.

Drivers get a 48V battery that delivers 12 bhp and torque of 200Nm.

However, only drivers of the xDrive40i versions will have electric-only capabilities when driving at low speed.

Engine choices include the entry-level 3.0-litre diesel unit producing 294 bhp and torque of 670Nm. BMW says it will be offering another diesel unit later this year.

The entry-level petrol engine is also 3.0-litres with a twin-turbocharger to deliver 375 bhp and torque of 540Nm.

For those interested in leasing the range-toper, the M60i offers a 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine with twin-turbochargers and mild-hybrid power to deliver 523 bhp and torque of 750Nm.

So, until the new X6 M makes an appearance, this version is the sprightliest model available with a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of 4.3 seconds.

The leather-like Sensafin material now fitted as standard

The interior has also been given a makeover with the leather-like Sensafin material now fitted as standard to underline its premium feel. Drivers can order this trim in a choice of three colours.

The X6 also features an ambient light bar and there’s LED backlighting below the trim to help create a relaxed atmosphere.

BMW has added a new centre console control for the electric parking brake, the iDrive controller and the start/stop button. It’s also where the control for the optional off-road modes and air suspension sit.

Drivers who undertake long journeys will find that a car is not only comfortable, but the front sport seats offer excellent lateral support and are heated.

As usual with BMW, there are some excellent packs to include with the comfort pack fitted as standard which adds a heated steering wheel and there’s a thermal function for the cupholders to keep them warm or cool as needed.

There’s also the option of the impressive panoramic glass sunroof called ‘sky lounge’ which is a striking feature when darkness falls with LED lights recreating a starlit sky.

The contract hire BMW X6 has undoubtedly been improved from what was already an excellent offering but with rivals refreshing their cars, drivers get to lease an excellent SUV with great comfort and handling features.
