View dealThe Volkswagen ID.7 Saloon is Volkswagen's flagship electric car: a five-seat, 4.96-metre executive model with a 532-litre boot and a WLTP range of up to 434 miles. It's aimed at people who cover real distance and want quiet, comfortable miles rather than drama.
It sits at the top of Volkswagen's electric line-up, above the ID.3 hatchback and the ID.4 and ID.5 crossovers, and it fills the space a large petrol or diesel saloon used to occupy for company car drivers and long-distance private buyers.
The choice here is simple. One body style on this page, one electric powertrain in rear- or all-wheel drive, and three trims: Match Pro Plus, Match Pro S Plus and GTX Plus.

The ID.7 Saloon is a large, aerodynamic electric five-seater built for long journeys. Road testers consistently single out its refinement, ride comfort and cabin space, and describe it as the most convincing electric Volkswagen so far.
Every version has five seats, a 532-litre boot with the rear seats up and 1,948 litres with them folded, so it swallows luggage in a way most saloons its size don't. It carries a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and a 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty, with the battery covered for 8 years / 100,000 miles to 70% of capacity.
The criticisms are consistent too: the touchscreen-led controls divide opinion, and reviewers note that real-world efficiency can fall short of the official 3.8-4.5 miles/kWh. Nobody calls it sporty. It's a cruiser, and it's good at it.
Both have five seats and five doors, and both are 4.96 m long on a 2.97 m wheelbase. The difference is load space: the Saloon's 532-litre boot against 605 litres in the Volkswagen ID.7 Estate, both expanding to 1,948 litres folded.
The Estate is 1.55 m tall to the Saloon's 1.54 m, and slightly heavier at 2,116-2,265 kg against 2,106-2,253 kg, so the Saloon is marginally the sleeker of the two. Braked towing is up to 1,800 kg either way.
If you regularly carry a dog, a bike or awkward flat-pack loads, the Estate earns its extra litres. Otherwise the Saloon's boot is more practical than the shape suggests. You can see both together on the full Volkswagen ID.7 range page.
Because the standard specification is unusually complete for a car at this size, which means fewer decisions and fewer optional extras to justify on a monthly rental. Every ID.7 Saloon arrives well equipped, whichever trim you pick.
Across the range you get matrix LED headlights, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, massaging and heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, electric seat memory, a powered tailgate, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, three-zone climate control and a heat pump.
Safety and assistance kit is equally thorough: adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, traffic sign recognition, self-steering parking and front and rear parking sensors, alongside that 5-star Euro NCAP result.
One practical note from a leasing point of view: home charging matters more than headline range. The best version takes eight hours for a full 0-100% charge at 11 kW, so a home wallbox turns this into an overnight car. Our electric car guide covers the basics if you're switching for the first time.
There's one powertrain, in two drive layouts.
An 82-91 kWh battery (77-86 kWh usable) with 282-335 bhp, automatic, rear- or all-wheel drive, and a WLTP range of up to 434 miles. Rapid charging runs at up to 185-200 kW, taking the best version from 10-80% in 28 minutes. It suits drivers with home or reliable workplace charging.
| Electric | |
|---|---|
| Boot | 532 litres |
| Power | 282–335 bhp |
| Seats | 5 |
| Battery | 82–91 kWh |
| 0–62 mph | 5.4–6.6 s |
| Braked towing | 1000–1800 kg |
| Electric range (WLTP) | 368–434 miles |
Three trims, and the gaps between them are narrower than usual because so much is standard.
The entry version: 282 bhp, rear-wheel drive, 19-inch "Hudson" alloy wheels and cloth upholstery. It brings voice activation for navigation and phone, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start with safelock, plus a hands-free tailgate, automatic parking assist and a rear-view camera. A retractable towbar and adaptive suspension are optional.
Mechanically the same starting point - 282 bhp, rear-wheel drive, 19-inch "Hudson" alloys and cloth trim - with the same optional retractable towbar and adaptive suspension. This one is about presentation rather than added equipment, so choose it on how it looks and how it's priced on the day.
The all-wheel-drive performance version, with 335 bhp, 20-inch "Skagen" alloy wheels, adaptive suspension as standard and heated rear seats. It also adds ventilated massage seats for the front. Reviewers rate it as a fast, composed cruiser rather than a genuine sports saloon, and note it trades some range for the extra motor.
Packs are worth a look before you order. The Int+ Pack adds ventilated massage seats for the front; the Ext+ Pan Pack adds IQ.Drive and the Exterior package plus with an electronic darkening panoramic sunroof, Area view including rear view camera, and a memory feature for park assist; the Int+Ext+ Pan Pack combines the two. Five paint colours are offered across the range: Aquamarine blue, Glacier white, Moonstone grey, Scale silver and Stonewashed blue.
