Equipment and handling
The Toyota Corolla is the world's bestselling car - the firm has shifted more than 46 million versions - and the new Corolla is head and shoulders above the last model that was sold here in 2006. It made way for the Auris and this new model is a striking offering. Firstly, it's designed for family use so is geared towards high comfort levels and along with its head-turning exterior styling, the interior has a premium look and feel. There is extensive use of soft touch materials and the suspension deals with bumps and rough roads effectively. The platform also delivers a stable performance and there's little in the way of body roll, even when cornering at speed, so the Corolla gives the driver lots of confidence and the steering delivers good feedback. The Toyota Corolla is an agile car to drive around town with the engines delivering smooth performance. It's also a quiet car on long motorway journeys when being driven at speed with the standard features of lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control really help to deliver a stress-free experience. Another useful standard feature is a reversing camera and there's an 8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. One of the big attractions since the Corolla range is now hybrid is that the firm uses self-charging hybrid technology so it is hassle-free because you don't need to plug the car in for recharging. The battery pack does not enable all-electric driving but it does make significant fuel savings and it's also a lighter car because the battery is smaller. Standard equipment includes alloy wheels, heated front seats and a DAB radio while other models feature satnav, folding door mirrors and rain sensing wipers. Potential upgrade features include an excellent panoramic sunroof, a top end audio system and contrasting roof colours. Essentially, the Toyota Corolla is an excellent offering in a competitive segment with sharp styling and a premium interior and along with its low running costs, the Corolla is an excellent choice for those wanting an impressive hybrid family car.
