View dealThe BYD Atto 3 Evo is a five-seat electric family SUV, 4.46 metres long, with a 490-litre boot and a 74.8 kWh battery giving up to 316 miles of WLTP range. It's the thoroughly reworked version of the car that introduced BYD to British drivers.
It sits in the middle of BYD's electric line-up, above the brand's smaller SUVs and below the larger Sealion 7. If you want a roomy, well-equipped electric SUV and you care more about kit, warranty and charging speed than back-road entertainment, it deserves a look.
The choice is simple: one SUV body, one battery, and two trims - Design with rear-wheel drive, Excellence with all-wheel drive.

The current Atto 3 Evo is a comprehensively updated take on BYD's original UK model. Reviewers consistently praise the equipment count, the cabin space and the 220 kW rapid charging.
They're just as consistent about the flip side: the ride is firm over broken surfaces and the steering is heavy, so this isn't a car for keen drivers. What it does offer is a 490-litre boot with the rear seats up, 1,360 litres folded, five seats, a five-star Euro NCAP rating and a six-year or 93,750-mile manufacturer warranty, with the battery covered for eight years or 155,000 miles.
Because every version arrives loaded. There is no long options list to agonise over, which makes speccing a lease straightforward - you pick a trim, a colour and a term, and the kit is already there.
Standard across the range: adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, a powered tailgate, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and a heat pump.
Safety kit is equally thorough, with autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, traffic sign recognition and front and rear parking sensors fitted throughout. Euro NCAP awarded five stars, with 91% for adult occupant protection and 89% for child occupants.
Servicing falls every 24 months or 20,000 miles, which suits a typical lease term nicely. If you're new to electric cars, our electric car guide covers the basics before you commit.
There's only one: a fully electric drivetrain with a 74.8 kWh battery. No petrol version, no hybrid, so the question is really whether an EV fits your week rather than which engine to pick.
Power runs from 308 to 443 bhp depending on version, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. WLTP range reaches up to 316 miles, 0-62 mph takes from 3.9 seconds, and rapid charging peaks at 220 kW - 10-80% in 25 minutes on the best version. A full home charge takes about eight hours at 11 kW on the best version.
It suits anyone who can charge at home or reliably at work. If you can't, read our guide on how to charge your electric car before you order, because public charging changes the cost picture.

Two trims, and the real difference is drivetrain rather than gadgetry: Design is rear-wheel drive, Excellence is all-wheel drive with a handful of extra comfort features on top.
Design is the 308 bhp rear-wheel-drive version. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, with artificial leather upholstery, a vegan leather multifunction steering wheel, LED headlights, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a rear-view camera alongside the standard 360-degree system.
The Design is currently available from £356.08 a month inc VAT.
Excellence steps up to 443 bhp and all-wheel drive, which brings quicker acceleration and extra traction in poor weather. Over Design it adds a power-opening panoramic glass sunroof, a windscreen head-up display and heated rear seats, on the same 18-inch alloys and artificial leather trim.
The Excellence is currently available from £368.40 a month inc VAT. Against the Design, that is currently £12.32/mo more expensive (inc VAT).
Six paint colours are offered across the range, including Atlantis blue, Iris blue, Obsidian black, Ruby red, Skiing white and Time grey. Colour availability varies by build, so check the individual deal.
If you're weighing up the Atto 3 Evo, it's worth a look at the Leapmotor C10, the larger BYD Sealion 7 from the same BYD range, the Škoda Enyaq and the OMODA 5.
