View dealThe SEAT Leon is a five-seat family car sold as a hatchback or an estate, with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol or a plug-in hybrid. The hatchback measures about 4.37 metres long, so it's roomy inside without being awkward in a multi-storey.
It suits drivers who want a conventional family car rather than an SUV: a low driving position, a boot between 270 and 620 litres depending on the version, and running costs that stay sensible. Road testers consistently rate its rear-seat space and its composure on a motorway.
The choice is straightforward. Pick the body first, then decide between petrol and plug-in hybrid, then match the specification to what you actually use.

The Leon is SEAT's family hatchback and estate, and the current car is the fourth generation, on sale in this form since 2020. It's the brand's mainstream family offering, sitting alongside SEAT's SUVs.
Reviewers tend to say the same things about it: handsome, spacious in the back, pleasant rather than thrilling to drive, and let down slightly by touch-sensitive climate controls. The interior is shared in spirit with other VW Group cars, which is no bad thing for build quality.
Every version seats five and comes with a three-year or 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty, and the Leon holds a five-star Euro NCAP rating. Boot space runs from 270 litres in the smallest-booted version up to 620 litres in the roomiest.
Two shapes, same car underneath. The hatchback is the shorter, easier-to-park option; the estate stretches the body to 4.64 metres and adds a much larger load area. Both seat five and share the same width and turning circle, with a very similar wheelbase.
At 4.37 metres long with a 10.8-metre turning circle, the Leon hatchback is the town-friendly choice. Boot space runs from 270 to 380 litres with the rear seats up, depending on which powertrain you pick.
The Leon Estate is 4.64 metres long and carries 470 to 620 litres behind the rear seats. You give up a little parking convenience; you gain a genuinely useful, square load bay for prams, dogs and luggage.
Because the standard kit list covers the things most drivers would otherwise pay extra for, and because a family car on a fixed monthly rental is easy to budget for. Safety and assistance equipment is standard across the range.
Every Leon has keyless entry and start, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB radio, voice control, front and rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and an electric parking brake.
On safety, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist and traffic sign recognition are fitted to every version. The five-star Euro NCAP result breaks down as 88% for adult occupants, 86% for children, 81% for vulnerable road users and 77% for safety assist. Towing capacity reaches up to 1,700 kg braked on the plug-in hybrid.
Two choices: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol, or a plug-in hybrid using the same 1.5-litre engine with a 25.8 kWh battery. Both drive the front wheels. The petrol is the simpler car; the hybrid rewards you only if you can plug it in.
The 1.5-litre turbo produces 114 to 148 bhp depending on the version, with a manual or automatic gearbox and official economy of 47.9 to 55.4 mpg. Nothing to plug in, nothing to think about - the sensible default if your mileage is mixed or you park on the street.
The plug-in hybrid pairs the 1.5-litre engine with a 25.8 kWh battery (20.0 kWh usable) for 201 bhp and 0-62 mph in 7.7 to 7.9 seconds, automatic only. At 11 kW it charges from empty to full in 2.5 hours on the best version. It suits company car drivers and anyone with home charging; without a plug, you're carrying the battery for nothing. Specification varies from version to version, and the trim available on any given Leon is shown on the individual deal rather than fixed across the range. The good news is that the core equipment doesn't change with it.
Keyless entry and start, the digital instrument cluster, smartphone mirroring, parking sensors front and rear, and the full safety suite are fitted to every Leon, whichever version you end up with. So the specification decision is mostly about appearance, wheels and creature comforts rather than whether the car is properly equipped.
Five paint colours are offered across the range: desire red, fiord blue, glacial white, graphene grey and midnight black. Insurance groups run from 14 to 21 on the petrol and 24 to 25 on the plug-in hybrid, which is worth checking before you commit.
Before you order, read the specification on the deal itself rather than assuming - it's the single most common thing customers come back to us about. Our guide to choosing your car covers how to weigh spec against term and mileage.
If the Leon is close but not quite right, the CUPRA Leon is the sportier take on the same car, the Volkswagen Golf is its closest relative, the Škoda Scala is the practical alternative and the Ford Focus covers similar ground. More options sit on our SEAT leasing page.
