View dealThe Polestar 4 Coupe is a five-seat electric coupé that sits between the smaller and larger models in Polestar's range, and it's the one that gets noticed. A very long wheelbase for the body length, and a cabin that road testers consistently rate for quality and calm.
It suits drivers who want an electric car with real range and a bit of design courage. If that idea bothers you, be honest with yourself early.
The choice here is simple: one body, one 100 kWh electric powertrain in rear- or all-wheel drive, and three versions - Business, Prime and Performance Prime.

The current 4 Coupe is a low-slung five-seater, 4.84 m long with a 3.00 m wheelbase, and that stretched wheelbase is why rear passengers get so much room despite the sloping roof. Reviewers routinely praise the interior quality, the refinement at motorway speed and the honesty of its range prediction.
The criticisms are consistent too: nearly everything runs through the central screen, and the missing rear window divides opinion sharply. Practically, you get a 526-litre boot with the rear seats up, 1,536 litres folded, and a 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty with an 8-year / 100,000-mile battery warranty behind it.
Because the standard specification is genuinely complete, which matters more on a lease than on a purchase - you're choosing a fixed spec for two, three or four years, and there's little here you'd feel short of.
Every version has adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, self-steering parking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist and autonomous emergency braking. Comfort kit is equally thorough: a fixed panoramic glass roof, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory, powered tailgate, keyless entry and start, wireless charging and Apple CarPlay.
A heat pump is fitted across the range, which helps protect range in cold weather - worth having in a British winter. Towing is possible too, at up to 2,000 kg braked on the strongest versions.
There's one powertrain family: a 100 kWh battery driving either the rear wheels or all four, always with an automatic transmission and no petrol engine to fall back on.
Power runs from 268 bhp to 537 bhp, WLTP range from 367 to 385 miles, and 0-62 mph from 7.1 to 3.8 seconds depending on version. Rapid charging peaks at 200 kW, giving 10-80% in 30 minutes on the best version, and 0-100% takes about 11 hours at 11 kW at home on the best version.
You'll need somewhere to charge, ideally a home wallbox. If you're new to this, our electric car guide covers the basics, and how to charge an electric car explains connectors and speeds in plain terms.

Business covers the essentials, Prime adds comfort and display technology, and Performance Prime is the fast all-wheel-drive version.
Business starts at 268 bhp with rear-wheel drive, 20-inch "Aero" alloy wheels and cloth upholstery. On top of the standard kit it has LED headlights, wireless Apple CarPlay, the panoramic glass roof with Polestar logo, a leather multifunction heated steering wheel, a rear-view camera, automatic high beam and dual-zone climate control.
The Business is currently available from £500.21 a month.
Prime keeps the 268 bhp rear-wheel-drive setup, the 20-inch "Aero" wheels and cloth trim, then adds Pixel LED headlights and a head-up display, plus heated rear seats, a hands-free tailgate and three-zone climate control. Massaging and ventilated front seats are available as options.
The Prime is currently available from £525.59 a month. Against the Business, that is currently £25.38/mo more expensive.
Then there's the performance version.
This is the 537 bhp all-wheel-drive car, reaching 62 mph in 3.8 seconds, and it wears 22-inch "Performance" alloy wheels over the Prime specification. Reviewers generally find the twin-motor car the more satisfying drive; the bigger wheels will firm up the ride.
The Performance Prime is currently available from £610.01 a month. Against the Prime, that is currently £84.42/mo more expensive.
If the 4 Coupe's rear-window solution isn't for you, the Volkswagen ID.5 and Audi Q4 cover similar electric coupé-SUV ground, and you can see the full Polestar 4 Coupe line-up alongside the rest of the Polestar range.
