The B-Class is a stylish and well-built MPV that is also safe and comfortable to drive. Nice luxury touches make this a quality family vehicle.
There's a choice of two engines for the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and both are incredibly efficient. Mercedes has used clever technology to make them, particularly the diesels, fuel-efficient and the B180 CDI will return around 64 mpg and has CO2 emissions of 115g/km (the ‘Eco’ version of this engine will return 74mpg). Opt for the petrol B200 and you'll still get 46 mpg and emissions of 144g/km - this engine is efficient thanks to its direct injection and turbocharging which makes it sprightly and responsive and there's also stop-start as part of the marque's BlueEFFICIENCY technology.
The Mercedes-Benz B-Class is extremely comfortable to drive, though the suspension is firmer in the Sport model, and the car is an impressive vehicle to own and drive. The design is bold and it's one of the best family hatchbacks on the market and, for the money, owners will find a versatile interior made with quality materials which have been put together with thought and good design. Standard equipment is quite extensive and includes a reversing camera, leather steering wheel and air conditioning. Other models come with rear sensing windscreen wipers and ambient interior lighting. Standard safety equipment includes a system to detect imminent collisions and apply the brakes and warn the driver as well.
It's built on the same platform as the Mercedes A-Class but feels more spacious and there’s room inside for four adults and enough legroom in the back to stretch out. As one would expect with Mercedes, the B-Class is very quiet to drive and the suspension deals with any bumpy roads quite effectively. Some people may take some time getting used to the control functions, which utilises a rotating dial on the central touchscreen and most things, including the satnav, are controlled in this way.
