The C4 is a great little performer that offers incredible value for money in what is a great all-round package. The C4 is a comfortable car to be in and it's a practical choice too with lots of space on board for luggage and adults. Throw-in the car's low running costs and the decent kit list and the C4 deserves serious consideration.
Citroen is well known for making excellent engines, especially diesels, and the C4 comes with a choice of three petrol and three diesel. Perhaps the pick of the crop would be the 1.6 litre eHDi which will return 76mpg while having CO2 emissions of just 95g/km. Under current rules, this means the car would be exempt from road tax. Opt for the much more powerful 2.0 litre diesel engine and the C4 will still return 57mpg and have emissions of 130g/km. The petrol engines aren't quite as fuel efficient though there is a useful 1.6 litre unit that will return 46mpg.
There's also a huge boot on board with 408 litres available and with the rears seats folded flat this expands to a very useful 1,300 litres. However, the legroom in the rear may be on the tight side for adults though there's enough space for everyone to sit comfortably. The interior is well designed and well-made and everything is geared up for comfort - this car is excellent motorway cruiser and for long journeys. The suspension has a soft setting which means that potholes and damaged roads can barely be felt and it's also a very quiet car to drive with little road noise being heard in the cabin. The C4 is a safe car to drive, it scored full marks in the Euro NCAP crash tests and electronic stability control is fitted as standard.
Interestingly, Citroen have also added their button for calling the emergency services in the event of a smash and this function will activate automatically if needs be. Standard kit includes cruise control, air con, hill start assist and electric windows. Go up the range of models and the kit includes alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity and leather trim. Some models even come with a massage function for the front seats, dual zone climate control and parking sensors. The steering is light and helps to make this a fun car to drive and it's a good performer around town. Essentially, the C4 is a family-friendly car and manages to be different in what is a crowded market place by offering comfort and practicality few others can match for the price.
