The Audi RS5 Estate is Audi Sport's fast family estate: a 2.9-litre turbo six-cylinder engine paired with a 25.9 kWh battery for 630 bhp, 825 Nm and all-wheel drive, wrapped in a five-seat body with a proper tailgate. It's the RS car for people who need one car to do everything.
It sits at the top of the A5 family, above the everyday versions. Reviewers have made a lot of that shift - and then, having driven it, most conclude Audi has made the hybrid part work.
The choice here is simple. One body style on this page, one powertrain, and four trims: RS5 entry model, Carbon Black, Launch Edition and Performance Vorsprung.

This is a 4.90 m long, five-seat, five-door estate with 630 bhp, 825 Nm, 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds and all-wheel drive. Top speed runs from 155 mph to 177 mph depending on version, and it'll tow 1,900 kg braked.
Road testers are consistent on two points. The weight is real - 2,370 kg is a lot for this class - and the chassis hides it remarkably well.
The honest caveat is luggage space. At 361 litres with the rear seats up and 1,302 litres folded, the boot is smaller than an estate of this size would normally offer, because the battery sits under the floor. The battery itself is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles, guaranteeing 70% of capacity.
The Estate is the practical one. It carries 361 litres behind the rear seats and 1,302 litres with them folded, against 331 and 1,170 litres in the RS5 Saloon, and its square tailgate opening matters more than the numbers suggest.
Everything else is close. Both are 4.90 m long on a 2.90 m wheelbase, both seat five, both tow 1,900 kg braked, and the Estate's 2,370 kg kerb weight is only 15 kg up on the Saloon. If you want to see both together, the full Audi RS5 range is on one page.
Because the standard specification is unusually complete, and on a lease you take the car for a fixed term without carrying its future value. Every RS5 Estate has matrix LED headlights, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera and four-zone climate control.
The seats are the part people notice: heated, ventilated and massaging up front, with electric adjustment and memory for the driver. Add a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, privacy glass and roof rails.
On safety and assistance, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors and self-steering parking are standard across the range. Note the spare wheel situation: it's a tyre repair kit, not a spare.
There's one, and it's a plug-in hybrid - so the question is really whether you can charge it. Here's what that means day to day.
A 2.9-litre six-cylinder turbo petrol engine works with a 25.9 kWh battery (20.7 kWh usable) for 630 bhp through an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. You plug it in: a home or workplace wallbox takes it from 0-100% in about 2.5 hours at 11 kW on the best version.
Charging isn't compulsory - the car will run as a hybrid regardless - but the case for it is much weaker if you can't. If you're new to plug-ins, our electric and hybrid leasing guides cover the practical side. Insurance sits in groups 48-50, so get a quote before you order.

All four trims share the same 630 bhp plug-in hybrid drivetrain and quattro all-wheel drive, so this is a decision about wheels, trim and technology rather than pace.
Far from basic. It comes on 20-inch "5 Y Spoke" alloy wheels with pearl nappa leather upholstery in honeycomb stitching with an RS embossed logo, a 14.5-inch OLED touchscreen with navigation, a Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium sound system, heated front seats and camera-based traffic sign recognition. A fixed panoramic glass roof and a retractable towbar are available as options.
This one is about appearance rather than added equipment. It moves to 21-inch "6 Twin Spoke" alloy wheels and a darker exterior treatment, with the same leather interior and the same panoramic roof and retractable towbar options as the entry car.
An edition of Carbon Black with the technology filled in. It keeps the 21-inch "6 Twin Spoke" wheels and adds the Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium sound system with integrated headrest speakers, a 3D and 360-degree surround-view camera, and park assist pro with remote functionality.
The fully loaded one. Over Launch Edition it adds a fixed panoramic glass roof with switchable transparency, pearl nappa leather and dinamica upholstery with honeycomb stitching and RS embossed logo, heated rear seats, and park assist pro that you operate from your smartphone. A retractable towbar stays on the options list.
Worth knowing: on trims that don't include that kit as standard, the Tech Pack bundles the switchable panoramic roof, the headrest-speaker sound system, the 3D and 360-degree camera and remote park assist into one factory option.
