The Audi RS3 is the fastest version of Audi's smallest saloon and hatchback, with a 2.5-litre turbo petrol engine making 394 bhp, an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive as standard. It's a family-sized car that happens to reach 62 mph in 3.8 seconds.
It sits at the top of the A3 family, above the everyday versions, and it's aimed at drivers who want serious pace without moving up to something physically bigger. Five seats, four or five doors, and a cabin you could commute in every day.
The choice here is straightforward: hatchback or saloon, one petrol engine, and three trims - the RS3 entry model, Carbon Black and Carbon Vorsprung.

The RS3 is the current fifth-generation car, on sale in this form since 2026, and a small number of previous-shape examples may still be around while stocks last. It's the performance flagship of Audi's compact range.
Reviewers consistently single out the engine: its off-beat soundtrack is the thing testers write about first, and few rivals sound anything like it. They also credit the car's handling balance for making an Audi of this size genuinely playful rather than simply grippy.
The common criticism is comfort. Road testers note that on big wheels the ride can feel brittle over poor surfaces, and that it's noisier than a standard A3 at motorway speeds.
Practicality is decent rather than generous: five seats, a boot of 282 litres in the hatchback and 321 litres in the saloon, and a 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
Two shapes, identical mechanically. The hatchback is 4.38 m long with five doors and a folding rear bench; the saloon is 4.53 m long with four doors and a bigger but less accessible boot. Both share the same 2.63 m wheelbase.
The more flexible of the two. Its 282-litre boot grows to 1,104 litres with the rear seats folded, and the tailgate opening makes bulky loads easier. Browse the RS3 hatchback to see current versions.
A four-door with a 321-litre boot - more raw volume than the hatchback, but through a conventional boot lid rather than a tailgate, so long items are harder work. See the RS3 saloon for what's available.
Because the standard specification is already generous, so you're not forced into options to get a well-equipped car. Every RS3 comes with matrix LED headlights, a head-up display, a digital instrument cluster, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging and three-zone climate control.
Driver assistance is thorough too: adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition and a rear-view camera are fitted across the range, along with heated front sports seats, electric seat memory, privacy glass and rain-sensing wipers.
On the practical side, all versions have a 55-litre fuel tank, a 12.0 m turning circle and a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel. Worth knowing before you order if you cover a lot of rural miles.
There's only one, so the decision is made for you: a 2.5-litre turbo petrol with 394 bhp, a seven-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.
Expect 500 Nm of torque, 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph, rising to 174 mph on some versions. Official economy is 29.7-30.7 mpg with CO2 of 210-215 g/km, so it's a car for enthusiasts rather than cost-per-mile shoppers. No charging, no plug, just fuel.

All three share the same engine, all-wheel drive and 19-inch alloy wheels, so the decision comes down to appearance and how much assistance technology you want.
Well equipped as it stands, with MMI navigation plus and a 12.8-inch MMI touch display, a flat-top and flat-bottom black leather multifunction steering wheel with shift paddles, heated front seats, camera-based traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control. Leather upholstery, sports suspension and 19-inch "5 Y Spoke" alloys are standard; a fixed panoramic glass roof, roof rails and sports seats are options.

This one is about looks rather than extra kit. It swaps in 19-inch "10 Cross Spoke" alloy wheels and keeps the leather upholstery, with the panoramic glass roof, roof rails and sports seats still available as options.
The Carbon Black is currently available from £780.90 a month.
The fully loaded choice. It adds a panoramic roof, 3D and 360-degree surround-view cameras, park assist pro with remote functionality and adaptive cruise assist plus, along with front and rear parking sensors, self-steering parking, lane-keep assist and adaptive suspension - the last of which is the one worth having if ride comfort matters to you. Sports seats remain an option.
The Carbon Vorsprung is currently available from £825.37 a month. Against the Carbon Black, that is currently £44.47/mo more expensive.
Eight paint colours are offered across the range: Arkona white, Ascari blue, Custom, Daytona grey, Kemora grey, Kyalami green, Mythos black and Progressive red. Our guide to choosing your car covers how spec choices affect what's available and how quickly.
If the RS3's running costs give you pause, the Audi A3 covers the same footprint in calmer form, while the Mercedes-Benz CLA offers a style-led alternative. You'll find the rest of the range on our Audi leasing pages.
