Mercedes-Benz A Class Lease Deals

A guide to leasing the Mercedes-Benz A Class hatchback, covering the petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains and the Sport, AMG Line, AMG and AMG S trims. Written by FVL's motoring team to help you pick the right version before you check the live deals.

The Mercedes-Benz A Class is the smallest hatchback Mercedes-Benz sells in the UK, and for most people it's the easiest way into the brand. Five seats, five doors, about 4.43 metres long, and a cabin that still feels a class above what the size of the car suggests.

It suits drivers who want something compact enough for town and tight car parks, but who don't want a plain small car. Reviewers consistently praise the interior design and screen technology, and consistently point out that rivals are sharper to drive on a twisty road.

The choice is simple enough: one hatchback body, petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid power, and four trims running from Sport up to the 415 bhp AMG S. You can see the rest of the Mercedes-Benz leasing range too.

About the Mercedes-Benz A Class

The A Class is Mercedes-Benz's compact five-door hatchback, sold in this third-generation form since 2022. It carries five people, has a boot of 310 to 370 litres depending on the version, and comes with a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty.

Earlier A Class generations were tall, narrow and clever rather than desirable. This one went the other way: low, wide-screened and styled to sit alongside the badge's bigger saloons.

Road testers tend to agree on the character. The ride is soft and the car feels grown-up at a cruise, the digital dashboard genuinely impresses, and the back seats are tighter than the exterior length implies. Euro NCAP awarded it five stars, with 96% for adult occupant protection.

Why lease a Mercedes-Benz A Class?

Because the standard kit list is unusually complete for a compact hatchback, so you don't need to chase options to get a well-equipped car. Every A Class has heated front seats, keyless entry and start, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety and assistance are standard across the range as well: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, automatic high beam, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and self-steering parking. Adaptive suspension, privacy glass, LED headlights and rain-sensing wipers come on every version too.

On practicality, the rear seats fold to free up between 1,125 and 1,210 litres, and braked towing runs up to 1,800 kg on the strongest versions. Servicing falls every 12 months or 12,500 to 15,500 miles, which is worth pencilling in against your contract length.

Which A Class powertrain is right for me?

Three choices: petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid. All are automatic, so it comes down to how far you drive, whether you can plug in at home or work, and how much performance you actually want.

Petrol

The broadest choice, from 134 bhp up to 415 bhp, automatic, with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive depending on version. WLTP economy spans 30.7 to 48.7 mpg, so the entry engines are the sensible ones for mixed driving and the big outputs are for enthusiasts.

Diesel

A 2-litre with 148 bhp, an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. Official economy of 53.3 to 57.7 mpg and 320 Nm of torque make it the pick if you rack up motorway miles; our team gets asked about it most by drivers on 20,000 miles a year and upwards.

Plug-in hybrid

A 1.3-litre turbo with a 15.6 kWh battery (12.9 kWh usable), 215 bhp combined and an eight-speed automatic. It needs charging to make sense - the best version takes 10-80% in 25 minutes at 22 kW. The boot drops to 310 litres. Our electric and hybrid leasing guides cover how that works day to day.

Which A Class trim should I choose?

Four trims: Sport and AMG Line for everyday use, then AMG and AMG S for performance. All four use artificial leather upholstery, and all four get the full standard safety kit, so the differences are wheels, cabin detail and, higher up, power.

Sport

The starting point, from 134 bhp with front-wheel drive, on 18-inch "5 Twin Spoke" alloys. It brings heated front seats, climate control, a driver monitoring camera and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a three-spoke ARTICO steering wheel. The Sport is currently available from £465.68 a month.

AMG Line

Same 134 bhp entry engine, but 18-inch "AMG 5 Twin Spoke" alloys, wireless phone charging, ambient interior lighting, blind-spot monitoring, paddle shifters and front sports seats. The AMG Line is currently available from £517.28 a month. Against the Sport, that is currently £51.60/mo more expensive.

Then come the two performance A Classes, both petrol, both all-wheel drive.

AMG

302 bhp, sports suspension and 19-inch "AMG Multi Spoke" alloys. Inside there's an AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather, augmented-reality navigation, traffic sign recognition and dual-zone climate control. The AMG is currently available from £740.12 a month. Against the AMG Line, that is currently £222.84/mo more expensive.

AMG S

The 415 bhp version, on 19-inch "AMG Cross Spoke" alloys, and the best-equipped car in the range: multibeam LED headlamps with adaptive high beam and cornering function, a panoramic sliding sunroof, a 360-degree camera parking pack, head-up display, massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel and memory for the electrically adjustable driver's seat. Adaptive cruise control and active lane-change assist are available as options. The AMG S is currently available from £930.18 a month. Against the AMG, that is currently £190.06/mo more expensive.

Similar cars to consider

If you're shortlisting premium hatchbacks, the two obvious alternatives are the BMW 1 Series and the Audi A3. Both are the same sort of size and sold in similar numbers, and both are worth a look before you commit.

Mercedes-Benz A Class FAQs

For a family of four, generally yes. It seats five, the boot holds 310 to 370 litres depending on version and 1,125 to 1,210 litres with the rear seats folded. Reviewers do note that rear passenger space is tighter than the car's 4.43 m length suggests, so sit in the back before you order.

It will drive without charging, but you'd be carrying a 15.6 kWh battery around for nothing. Charge it and the electric side does the short trips; the fastest charging rate is 22 kW, taking the best version from 10-80% in 25 minutes. If you can't plug in where you park, choose the petrol or diesel instead.

It can tow, within limits. Braked towing runs from 1,400 kg up to 1,800 kg depending on version, with 720 to 750 kg unbraked, and the roof can take 75 kg. Check the figure for the exact derivative you're ordering, and tell us before you sign so a towbar can be specified.

Three years with unlimited mileage, which covers the whole of most lease terms. The paintwork guarantee runs to three years and the anti-corrosion guarantee to 30 years. On the plug-in hybrid, the battery is warranted for six years or 62,000 miles, guaranteeing 70% of capacity.

Euro NCAP gave it five stars, scoring 96% for adult occupant protection, 91% for child occupants, 92% for vulnerable road users and 75% for safety assist. Autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, automatic high beam and front and rear parking sensors are fitted to every version.

It depends entirely on what's available at the time, and it moves as pricing is refreshed. The entry Sport is currently from £465.68 a month. Compare the live A Class deals below, and our guide to choosing mileage, term and spec is a sensible read first.
