The Audi A6 is Audi's large executive car: five seats, about 4.93 metres long, and built to cover motorway miles quietly rather than entertain you on a B-road. It sits above the smaller saloons and estates in the Audi range, and below the brand's full-size limousine.
It suits company car drivers, long-distance commuters and families who want space without an SUV. Reviewers consistently praise the cabin quality, refinement and comfort, and consistently note that the driving experience is more measured than sporting.
The choice breaks down into three parts: the body (Estate, Hatchback or Saloon), the powertrain (petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid or electric) and the trim, from Sport up to the 496 bhp S6 versions.

The A6 is a five-seat executive car sold in three body shapes, with petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and fully electric power in the current A6 range, on sale in this form since 2025.
Road testers reliably describe it as quiet, well finished and very comfortable at speed, with a cabin dominated by a 14.5-inch OLED touchscreen. The same testers tend to mark it down for boot space against its closest rivals and for touch controls that take learning.
Boot space runs from 354 to 503 litres depending on the version you pick, every A6 carries a 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty, and the range holds a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.
Three shapes, one car underneath. The Estate is the load-carrier, the Saloon is the traditional four-door, and the Hatchback is the electric five-door with a lifting tailgate. Your choice mainly changes boot shape and rear headroom.
The A6 Estate carries 404 to 503 litres with the seats up and 1,422 to 1,534 litres folded, depending on version. It's the pick for dogs, bikes and flat-pack loads, and the easiest body to live with day to day.
The A6 Hatchback is a five-door body, with a 502-litre boot that opens up to 1,330 litres folded. The sloping roofline looks sleeker than the Estate but costs a little rear headroom.
The A6 Saloon has four doors and a separate boot of 354 to 492 litres depending on version. Choose it for the classic executive look and a quieter cabin, accepting a smaller load opening than the Estate.
Because the A6 is well equipped from the entry trim up, which matters more on a lease than it does on a purchase: you're paying to use the specification, not to recover it later. Every version arrives with a long list already fitted.
Standard across the range are adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and self-steering parking. Safety kit includes autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beam, and the range holds 5 stars from Euro NCAP.
It's practical too, with five seats, up to 503 litres of boot space in the Estate and braked towing of up to 2,100 kg on the electric versions. Worth checking before you order: wheel size affects ride comfort, and the biggest wheels come as standard higher up the range.
Four options: petrol for simplicity, diesel for long motorway runs, plug-in hybrid if you can charge and want low-emission running, and electric if you can charge at home or at work. All are automatic.
A 2-litre turbo with 201 bhp, a seven-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. WLTP economy is 36.7 to 39.8 mpg and 0-62 mph takes 8.2 to 8.3 seconds. The straightforward choice if your mileage is moderate and you'd rather not think about charging.
Also 201 bhp from 2 litres, but with 400 Nm, all-wheel drive and 49.6 to 55.4 mpg on the WLTP test. It's quicker than the petrol at 6.9 to 7.0 seconds to 62 mph, and it's the one to shortlist if you live on the motorway.
A 2-litre turbo plus a 25.9 kWh battery, making 295 bhp through all four wheels and 0-62 mph in 6.0 seconds. It needs charging to make sense: a full top-up takes about 2.5 hours at 11 kW on the best version. Unplugged, you're carrying the battery for nothing.
An 83 to 100 kWh battery, 282 to 496 bhp, and rear- or all-wheel drive, with WLTP range of up to 441 miles. The best version rapid-charges from 10 to 80% in 21 minutes at 270 kW, or a full charge at home takes 8 hours at 11 kW. Our electric car guide covers the basics if this is your first EV.

Five everyday trims and two performance versions. Sport already covers most of what people actually use, and the trims above it mainly add wheels, glass and sound.
A Tech Pack is available as an add-on rather than a trim, adding the Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System, the ambient lighting package plus with dynamic interaction light and a head-up display.
The entry version, 201 bhp and front-wheel drive, on 18-inch "5 Twin Spoke" alloys with artificial leather trim. You get the 14.5-inch OLED touchscreen with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, four-zone climate control and the drive and park assistance package. Sport is currently available from £576.73 a month.
Adds privacy glass over Sport, along with 19-inch "5 Arm" alloys, front sports seats and firmer sports suspension. A fixed panoramic glass roof and a retractable towbar are available as options. Deals on this trim come and go, so ask our team what's live.
Mostly a styling step: 21-inch multi-spoke twist Audi Sport alloys in black metallic, a three-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel and leather with artificial leather upholstery. Handsome, but be honest with yourself about 21-inch wheels on poor roads. The Black Edition is currently available from £605.77 a month.
The fully loaded everyday trim, with 21-inch black metallic alloys in a gloss turned finish, a fixed panoramic glass roof with switchable transparency, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, head-up display, Bang & Olufsen 3D sound with headrest speakers and park assist pro with remote functionality. Vorsprung is currently available from £640.72 a month. Against the Black Edition, that is currently £34.94/mo more expensive.
This is where the electric A6 starts, from 282 bhp with rear-wheel drive, on 20-inch "10 Spoke" alloys with leather upholstery. Over Sport's kit it adds LED headlights plus, a reversing camera, privacy glass, an ambient lighting pack, a heat pump, three-zone climate control and a fixed towbar. Ask us what's available.
Then come the two S6 versions, both electric and both making 496 bhp.
496 bhp, all-wheel drive and 21-inch "5 Arm Dynamic" alloys, with air suspension and leather seats that are massaging as well as ventilated. It also brings a heated steering wheel, Bang & Olufsen 3D sound, surround view cameras and adaptive cruise assist plus. From £1,106.54 a month.
The same 496 bhp car with the fixed panoramic glass roof with switchable transparency, a head-up display, a 3D 360-degree surround camera and park assist pro with remote functionality. Fast, but still an unshowy thing to sit in. From £1,167.05 a month. Against the S6 Black Edition, that is currently £60.50/mo more expensive.
If you're weighing up alternatives, the Audi A5 sits a size below, the BMW i5 is the electric rival, the BMW 3 Series is the smaller sports saloon, and the Volvo V60 covers similar estate ground. More options sit on our Audi leasing page.
