View dealThe Volvo EX30 is Volvo's smallest SUV and its most compact electric car: a five-seat, 4.23-metre model aimed at drivers who want Scandinavian design and a premium badge without a big car on the driveway.
It sits below the EX40 and EX90 as the entry point to Volvo's electric range. One body style, one electric powertrain family spanning 51-69 kWh batteries and 268-422 bhp, and seven trims from Core to Cross Country Ultra.
It suits city and commuter drivers more than growing families. Reviewers consistently praise the styling, the comfort and the way it shrinks around you in town, while flagging tight rear seats and a cabin that puts almost every control on the central screen.

The EX30 is a compact electric SUV with five seats, five doors and a 318-litre boot with the rear seats up, rising to 1,000 litres folded. Volvo covers it with a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty and an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty.
Road testers are near-unanimous on two things: it looks and feels special for its size, and the minimalist interior divides opinion because heating, mirrors and even the glovebox live in the touchscreen. Several long-term testers report over-the-air updates improving that over time.
Where it earns its Volvo badge is safety. It holds a five-star Euro NCAP rating, with 88% for adult occupant protection and 80% for safety assist, and WLTP range reaches up to 303.8 miles on the best version.
Because the EX30 is generously equipped from the entry trim up, which makes it a straightforward car to spec on a lease. Every version gets adaptive cruise control, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera and front and rear parking sensors.
The driver-assistance list is long for a small car: blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam and autonomous emergency braking are standard across the range. So are LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers and power-folding mirrors.
Practicality is honest rather than generous. Five seats, 318 litres of boot space, a turning circle from 10.7 metres and braked towing of up to 1,600 kg on the strongest versions. If you're new to electric cars, our electric car guide covers charging and running costs in plain English.
There's one answer here: the EX30 is electric only, so every version plugs in and none of them uses petrol or diesel. What changes between versions is battery size, power and whether drive goes to the rear wheels or all four.
Batteries run from 51 kWh to 69 kWh, power from 268 bhp to 422 bhp, and WLTP range up to 303.8 miles. All are automatic, rear- or all-wheel drive. A 10-80% rapid charge takes 28 minutes at 153 kW on the best version; a 7.6 kW home charge takes nine hours.

Seven trims, and the real decisions are wheel size, whether you want the panoramic roof and camera tech, and whether the rugged Cross Country look appeals.
Core starts at 268 bhp with rear-wheel drive, 18-inch five-spoke aero alloys on summer tyres, cloth upholstery, climate control, adaptive cruise control, front and rear park assist and a front vision camera. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are options. Core is currently available from £360.28 a month.
Plus keeps the 18-inch five-spoke alloys and cloth trim, adding heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a powered tailgate, wireless phone charging, active lane-change assist and dual-zone climate control over Core. Plus is currently available from £288.98 a month. Against the Core, that is currently £71.29/mo cheaper. Best value
An edition of Plus with a darker look: 19-inch five-spoke high-gloss black alloys on summer tyres. Plus Black Edition is currently available from £396.29 a month. Against the Plus, that is currently £107.30/mo more expensive.
The Cross Country treatment is about appearance rather than added equipment, giving the EX30 a more rugged stance on 19-inch five-spoke alloys with cloth upholstery. Privacy glass, seat memory and an electrically adjustable driver's seat are options. Cross Country Plus is currently available from £444.28 a month. Against the Plus Black Edition, that is currently £47.99/mo more expensive.
Ultra is the tech step: fixed panoramic glass roof and 360-degree camera with virtual 3D view, on 20-inch five-spoke alloys. Ultra is currently available from £418.91 a month. Against the Cross Country Plus, that is currently £25.37/mo cheaper. Best value
A darker-styled edition of Ultra, riding on 19-inch five-spoke alloys with cloth upholstery. The change is cosmetic rather than a different equipment list. Ultra Black Edition is currently available from £418.91 a month. Against the Ultra, that is currently £0.00/mo more expensive.
The range-topping combination: Ultra's kit with Cross Country looks on 19-inch five-spoke alloys, plus a rear park assist camera. Cross Country Ultra is currently available from £470.46 a month. Against the Ultra Black Edition, that is currently £51.55/mo more expensive.
