Volkswagen ID. Polo Lease Deals

The Volkswagen ID. Polo is Volkswagen's small all-electric hatchback, offered with a 38.5–55 kWh battery, 133–208 bhp and up to 281 miles of WLTP range. Three trims are available - Life, Life Launch Edition and Style - all five-door, automatic and front-wheel drive.

The Volkswagen ID. Polo is a five-door electric hatchback that takes one of the best-known names in small cars and puts a battery under the floor. It's 4.05 metres long, seats five, and carries a 441-litre boot - a genuinely big load bay for a supermini.

It sits at the small end of Volkswagen's electric range, below the larger ID models, and it's aimed at drivers who want an EV that behaves like a familiar Volkswagen rather than a science project. Commuters, downsizers, second-car households and company drivers all fit the brief.

The choice is simple: one body, one electric powertrain, and three trims - Life, Life Launch Edition and Style.

About the Volkswagen ID. Polo

The ID. Polo is Volkswagen's electric supermini, built on a front-wheel-drive electric platform and sold in hatchback form only. The Polo name has been on small Volkswagens for half a century, and this is the first electric car to wear it.

Reviewers consistently praise two things: the cabin, where physical climate and volume controls have returned after years of touch-sliders, and the way it drives - quiet, composed and more grown-up than its size suggests. The criticism is just as consistent, that the styling plays it safe and rear legroom is tight-ish for taller adults.

Practicality is where it surprises people. Five seats, that 441-litre boot with the rear seats up, and up to 281 miles of WLTP range. Volkswagen covers it with a 3-year / 60,000-mile warranty, with the battery separately warranted for 8 years / 100,000 miles to at least 70% of capacity.

Why lease a Volkswagen ID. Polo?

Because the standard specification is unusually complete for a small car, and leasing keeps you in a current EV without taking a view on what a three-year-old battery car will be worth. Every ID. Polo is automatic, front-wheel drive and fully electric.

Across the range you get adaptive cruise control, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry and start, a rear-view camera with front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers and a heated steering wheel. Safety kit includes autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beam.

Servicing falls due every 24 months, which suits a typical lease term, and braked towing runs up to 1,200 kg on the strongest versions. There's a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel.

Which ID. Polo powertrain is right for me?

There's one powertrain - fully electric - offered with a choice of battery size and motor output. It needs plugging in, and there is no petrol version of this car.

Electric

Battery capacity runs from 38.5 to 55 kWh, power from 133 to 208 bhp, and WLTP range up to 281 miles. Every version is an automatic driving the front wheels, with 0-62 mph between 7.1 and 9.5 seconds and a 99 mph top speed.

Charging is the deciding factor. The best version rapid-charges from 10-80% in 24 minutes at 105 kW, and a full 0-100% takes four hours on an 11 kW home supply - so if you can charge where you park, the smaller battery is plenty for commuting. Regular long runs point you at the bigger one. Our electric car guide walks through the basics if this is your first EV.

Which ID. Polo trim should I choose?

Three trims, and the gaps between them are small: lighting, navigation and seat heating, mostly. Life covers the essentials, Life Launch Edition fills in the obvious gaps, and Style adds the visual flourishes.

Life

Life rides on 17-inch "Edinburgh" alloys with cloth upholstery, LED headlights and air conditioning. It adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and the wiring prepared for heated front seats to be activated later. Options include matrix LED headlights, a panoramic roof, a heat pump, self-steering parking and privacy glass. The Life is currently available from £279.24 a month.

Life Launch Edition

This is an edition of Life rather than a step up the range, and it turns on the thing Life leaves as a preparation - heated front seats - while adding the Innovision pro navigation system and privacy glass. Wheels and upholstery are unchanged. The Life Launch Edition is currently available from £296.45 a month. Against the Life, that is currently £17.21/mo more expensive.

Style

Style adds interior ambient lighting with 30 colour options and ID.Light over the Life Launch Edition, along with matrix LED headlights, front sports seats and 18-inch "Cardiff" alloys. A 360-degree camera joins the option list alongside the panoramic roof, heat pump, self-steering parking and privacy glass. The Style is currently available from £340.98 a month. Against the Life Launch Edition, that is currently £44.53/mo more expensive.

Volkswagen ID. Polo FAQs

It's 441 litres with the rear seats up, which is large for a car 4.05 m long - bigger than plenty of family hatchbacks a class above. A good chunk of that is deep underfloor space, handy for stowing charging cables out of the way.

For a small family, yes. It has five seats, five doors, that 441-litre boot and a 10.9 m turning circle for car parks and school runs. Road testers do note that rear legroom is merely adequate for adults, so sit in the back before you commit.

WLTP range runs from 203 to 281 miles depending on battery and motor, with official efficiency of 4.5 to 4.7 miles per kWh. Cold weather, motorway speeds and a full car all reduce that, as with any EV. Check the range figure on the individual version you're ordering.

The fastest versions accept 105 kW DC, giving 10-80% in 24 minutes; peak rates across the range are 88 to 105 kW. On an 11 kW home or workplace AC supply, the best version goes from 0-100% in four hours. See our guide on how to charge an electric car.

Yes, within limits. Braked towing capacity is 500 to 1,200 kg depending on version, and 500 to 750 kg unbraked. That covers a small trailer or a lightweight caravan. Towing will noticeably reduce range, and a tow bar needs to be agreed before the car is ordered on a lease.

Volkswagen provides a 3-year / 60,000-mile vehicle warranty, an 8-year / 100,000-mile battery warranty guaranteeing at least 70% of capacity, a 3-year paintwork guarantee and 12-year anti-corrosion cover. Servicing is every 24 months. Worth checking your contract mileage against that 60,000-mile limit.

It depends entirely on what's available at the time - the cheapest trim on any given day isn't always the entry one, and offers change as stock and terms move. The Life is currently available from £279.24 a month. Compare the live deals below to see where things stand today.
