Smart Hashtag 1 Lease Deals

The Smart Hashtag 1 is a five-seat electric SUV around 4.27m long, offered with 49-66 kWh batteries, 268-422 bhp and WLTP range up to 273 miles. This page explains the Pure, Pro, Pro +, Premium and Brabus versions so you can pick the right one before you look at the live lease deals.

The Smart Hashtag 1 is a five-seat electric SUV, around 4.27 metres long, that replaced the tiny two-seater idea most people still associate with the badge. It's the small car in Smart's line-up, and it is electric only.

It suits drivers who want a compact, easy-to-park family car with proper cabin space, and who can charge at home or at work. Reviewers consistently praise the interior quality and the comfortable ride, and just as consistently grumble about the touchscreen menus.

The choice is simple: one SUV body, one electric powertrain in several outputs, and five versions - Pure, Pro, Pro +, Premium and the 422 bhp Brabus.

About the Smart Hashtag 1

The Hashtag 1 is Smart's compact electric SUV, sold in one body style with five seats and five doors. It's the smallest car Smart currently offers in the UK.

Road testers generally describe it as soft-riding, quiet and better finished inside than its size suggests, with plenty of head room front and rear. The boot is the usual criticism: 313 to 323 litres with the rear seats up depending on version, rising to between 976 and 986 litres folded.

Every version carries a 3-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty, with the battery covered for 8 years or 125,000 miles and guaranteed to hold at least 70% of its capacity. WLTP range runs from 193 miles up to 273 miles on the longest-legged version.

Why lease a Smart Hashtag 1?

Because the standard equipment list is unusually complete for a small SUV, and because an electric car's running costs and tax treatment suit a fixed monthly contract. You get the safety kit on every version, not just the expensive ones.

Adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB radio and voice control are standard throughout. So are autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, traffic sign recognition and rear parking sensors.

Euro NCAP awarded five stars, with 96% for adult occupant protection and 89% for child occupant protection. Servicing is every 24 months or 20,000 miles, and braked towing runs to 1,600 kg. If you're new to electric cars, our electric car guide covers the basics.

Which Hashtag 1 powertrain is right for me?

There's one answer here: the Hashtag 1 is electric only, with an automatic drive and either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive depending on the version you pick. No petrol option exists.

Electric

Battery capacity runs from 49 kWh to 66 kWh, with 268 to 422 bhp and WLTP range up to 273 miles. It always needs charging - there's no engine to fall back on. Rapid charging takes 10-80% in 30 minutes at 150 kW on the best version.

Rear-wheel drive is the norm; all-wheel drive comes with the most powerful version. Home or workplace AC charging can do 10-80% in three hours at 22 kW on the best version, though most wallboxes are slower - our guide to charging an electric car explains the difference.

Which Hashtag 1 trim should I choose?

Four everyday trims and one performance version make up the range.

Pure

The entry version, with 268 bhp and rear-wheel drive. It gets 18-inch Spark alloy wheels, CyberSparks LED headlights, 3D connected navigation with voice control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a synthetic leather steering wheel, cloth upholstery and air conditioning. The Pure is currently available from £476.83 a month.

Pro

Pro brings 19-inch Amps alloys, the Halo panoramic glass roof, a man-made leather instrument panel, a 360-degree camera and eight front and rear parking sensors. It also adds heated front and rear seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory, powered tailgate, wireless charging, dual-zone climate, privacy glass and ambient lighting.

Pro +

Pro + is about looks rather than extra kit - mechanically and equipment-wise it mirrors the Pro, on the same 19-inch Amps wheels with artificial leather upholstery. A fixed towbar is available as a factory option. Deals for individual versions come and go, so ask our team what's live.

Premium

Premium swaps to 19-inch Rotor alloys and Duo leather upholstery, and adds a head-up display, 12 front and rear parking sensors and Ambient lighting+. A heat pump, hands-free tailgate and automatic parking assist are included too, with the fixed towbar optional. The Premium is currently available from £357.72 a month.

Brabus

Then there's the performance version. Brabus has 422 bhp, all-wheel drive and 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds, on 19-inch Dynamo alloys with microfibre suede upholstery and ventilated front seats. Testers call it startlingly quick in a straight line rather than sharply focused. The Brabus is currently available from £416.28 a month. Against the Premium, that is currently £58.56/mo more expensive.

Smart Hashtag 1 FAQs

For a family of four, yes. It has five seats, five doors and a 2.75 m wheelbase that gives more rear head and leg room than the 4.27 m length suggests. Euro NCAP gave it five stars, with 89% for child occupant protection.

Between 313 and 323 litres with the rear seats up, depending on the version, and 976 to 986 litres with them folded. It's modest for the class and reviewers say so.

WLTP range spans 193 to 273 miles depending on battery and version. Official efficiency is 2.1 to 2.3 miles per kWh. Cold weather and motorway speeds will reduce all of those.

It's rated at 1,600 kg braked and 750 kg unbraked. A fixed towbar is a factory option on Pro +, Premium and Brabus, so it has to be specified when the car is built - retro-fitting isn't something to plan for on a lease. Tell us before you order.

Three years with unlimited mileage, which is useful if you lease on a high annual allowance. The battery has its own 8-year, 125,000-mile warranty guaranteeing 70% of capacity, plus a 3-year paintwork guarantee and 12-year anti-corrosion cover.

It depends entirely on what's available at the time, and it moves. The Pure is the entry trim and is currently from £476.83 a month, but a higher trim can sometimes sit close behind it. Check the live deals below.

Insurance groups run from 29 to 38 across the range, so it sits higher than you might expect for a compact SUV - a consequence of 268 bhp being the starting point. Get a quote on the exact version before you commit to a contract.
