View dealThe Škoda Octavia Hatchback is a five-seat family car built around space. Its 600-litre boot with the rear seats up is bigger than you'll find in most cars of this size, and there's 1,555 litres with the seats folded, all in a body about 4.70 m long.
It sits above the smaller Škoda hatchbacks and below the Superb in the range, and it's the sensible default for families, commuters and high-mileage drivers who want room without moving to an SUV. The current Octavia Hatchback is the fourth-generation car, on sale in this form since 2024.
The choice is straightforward: Petrol or Diesel, manual or automatic, and four trims running from SE Technology to the 261 bhp vRS. This page covers the Hatchback only; the deals below it are Hatchback deals.

The Octavia Hatchback is a long, roomy five-door family car with a rear hatch rather than a boot lid, so big items go in easily despite the saloon-like profile. Five seats, 600 litres of luggage space and a 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
Reviewers consistently praise the same things: rear legroom that shames cars from the class above, a comfortable motorway ride and genuinely frugal engines. The criticisms are consistent too. It isn't exciting to drive in its everyday forms, and road testers note more road noise than the best in class.
Safety is a strong point. Euro NCAP awarded five stars, with 85% for adult occupant protection and 80% for safety assist, and every version carries a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel.
Take the Hatchback unless you regularly fill the boot. It carries 600 litres with the seats up and 1,555 litres folded; the Škoda Octavia Estate gives 640 litres and 1,700 litres, on a body of much the same length at 4.70-4.71 m.
Both seat five, both have five doors, and both tow up to 1,600 kg braked on the right version. The Estate's advantage is shape rather than size on paper: a square load bay and a taller opening. On the Diesel, the Estate often costs about the same per month as the Hatchback like for like, so compare both before you decide. You can see everything on the full Octavia range page.
Because the standard kit list covers nearly everything most drivers would otherwise pay extra for, and a lease keeps you in a car still inside its 3-year / 60,000-mile warranty for the whole contract. Servicing falls every 12 months or 10,000 miles.
Every version and trim gets heated front seats, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and LED headlights. On the safety side that means autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition and front and rear parking sensors as standard.
Practical details matter more day to day: a 10.4 m turning circle, a 75 kg roof load limit and a fuel tank of 48-52 litres depending on version.
There are two, and neither needs charging: Petrol for lower-mileage drivers and town work, Diesel for long motorway runs and towing. Both drive the front wheels, and both come with manual or automatic gearboxes.
Power runs from 114 bhp to 261 bhp with 220-370 Nm of torque, from 1.5 to 2.0 litres and four cylinders. WLTP economy is 40.9-57.6 mpg and CO2 111-158 g/km. Insurance groups 14-27. It suits drivers doing mixed, mostly local miles.
The 2.0-litre Diesel offers 114-148 bhp and 300-360 Nm, with WLTP economy of 61.4-65.7 mpg and CO2 of 112-121 g/km. Braked towing is 1,500-1,600 kg. If you cover big motorway mileage or tow, this is the one. It's often cheaper to lease than the Petrol on a like-for-like trim.
Unsure which way to go? Our guide to choosing between petrol and diesel walks through the mileage maths.

Four trims: SE Technology, SE L and Sportline for everyday driving, plus the vRS.
The entry trim, from 114 bhp, on 16-inch "Matar Aero" alloys with cloth upholstery. It includes LED headlights, a 13-inch touchscreen with navigation, wireless SmartLink for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a black leather steering wheel with black stitching and heated front seats. Adaptive cruise control, a heated steering wheel, a rear-view camera, privacy glass and a retractable towbar are options.
A Diesel trim, from 114 bhp, on 17-inch "Mensa Aero" alloys. Over SE Technology it brings rear privacy glass, plus adaptive cruise control, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free tailgate, keyless entry and start and ambient lighting. Massaging or ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and three-zone climate control are available as options.
From 148 bhp, on 18-inch "Vega Aero" alloys. Over SE Technology it adds a three-spoke leather sports multifunction steering wheel with paddles and rear privacy glass, along with a rear-view camera, automatic high beam, ambient lighting, sports suspension and front sports seats. A head-up display and matrix LED headlights are options.
Then there's the performance version.
The 261 bhp Petrol vRS does 0-62 mph in 6.4 seconds and 155 mph, with 370 Nm of torque. Over Sportline it adds 19-inch "Elias" anthracite alloy wheels and a rear view camera, plus adaptive cruise control, matrix LED headlights, a hands-free tailgate and keyless entry and start. Adaptive suspension is an option.
Road testers describe it as quick and composed rather than wild, and it keeps the same 600-litre boot.
