The Skoda Fabia is a capable supermini that's well-made and safe to drive. There's also plenty of space in the cabin and the car delivers a comfortable ride.
There's a decent choice of engines for the Skoda Fabia and a very good manual gearbox and the choice of a smooth shifting dual clutch automatic transmission. The entry-level three cylinder 1.0 litre petrol engine is a nifty performer but those wanting more power should look at the 1.2 litre petrol unit producing either 89 bhp or 109 bhp will meet most needs and return economy of around 60 mpg. There's also an excellent three cylinder 1.4 litre diesel unit which should, Skoda claims, return around 80 mpg and would be a sound choice for those who rack up lots of motorway miles. Fuel economy for the Fabia range is from 58 mpg to 80 mpg.
Inside the Skoda Fabia there's a lot of space for passengers, the boot is a decent 330 litres in size which expands to 1,150 litres with the rear seats folded flat. The interior is made with robust materials which makes it a good choice for families. Out on the road, the car delivers a comfortable and predictable drive and the suspension helps deliver the comfort levels.
It's up against some stiff competition, which includes its sibling the VW Polo, so there's lots of equipment including DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity. The dashboard is well designed and laid out and the touchscreen is also useful for the multimedia system and the car's excellent stereo. There are also some interesting practical ideas including an ice scraper hidden with the car's fuel cap and stowaway drawers under the front seat. Other models come with a multifunction steering wheel, a better sound system, rear parking sensors and air conditioning. Safety kit includes a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Essentially, the Skoda Fabia is an excellent supermini with a solid build quality that will impress; there's lots of space on board for a family and it's a great car to drive around town.
