The Škoda Fabia is a five-door, five-seat supermini that trades flash for usefulness. It is Škoda's smallest hatchback in the UK line-up, sitting below the Scala and the brand's SUVs, and it is the car most people land on when they want something easy to park that still swallows a week's shopping and a pushchair.
The choice here is refreshingly simple. One body style, petrol power only, four everyday trims - SE Edition, Design Edition, SE L Edition and Monte Carlo Edition - plus the sportier 130.
At around 4.11 m long with a 380-litre boot, it's a small car that behaves like a bigger one. Reviewers consistently praise how comfortable and unflustered it feels for its size, and note that it's more sensible than thrilling to drive.

The Fabia is the current, fourth-generation car, on sale in this form since 2021. It's a supermini built around space and low fuss rather than style, and it has been a fixture of the Škoda range for decades.
Road testers regularly say the same three things: it rides bumps well for a small car, it's quiet enough for motorway work, and the cabin keeps proper buttons and dials for climate and volume, which makes it easy to use on the move. The flipside is that keen drivers find it steady rather than exciting.
Five seats, a 380-litre boot with the rear seats up and 1,190 litres with them folded, and a 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty cover most of what buyers ask about first.
Because the standard kit is generous and the running costs are predictable. Every Fabia gets keyless entry and start, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, LED headlights and ambient lighting.
Safety is a strong point. The Fabia holds a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, with 85% for adult occupant protection and 81% for child occupant protection, and every version has autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beam.
Practically, it's 1.78 m wide with a 9.9 m turning circle, so multi-storeys aren't a battle, and it will tow up to 1,200 kg braked on the right version - useful if you have a small trailer. Servicing falls every 12 months or 10,000 miles.
There's one answer here, and it keeps things simple: petrol. No plug, no battery to worry about, no charging to arrange at home - you fill the 43-litre tank and carry on. Gearbox and power output are the only real decisions.
Petrol engines run from 79 to 175 bhp, with manual or automatic gearboxes and front-wheel drive. WLTP economy is 52.3 to 56.5 mpg depending on version, and 0-62 mph takes between 7.4 and 15.7 seconds, so the gap between the entry engine and the strongest one is wide. Pick on equipment rather than badge: SE Edition covers the basics well, Design Edition and SE L Edition add screen and navigation technology, and Monte Carlo Edition and 130 are the sporty-looking end of the range.
The entry trim, starting at 79 bhp, on 15-inch "Rotare" alloys with dark chrome design logos and cloth upholstery. It includes wireless SmartLink for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking sensors, KESSY keyless entry and start, and an ambient lighting pack. Heated front seats and adaptive cruise control are available as options.
The SE Edition is currently available from £262.19 a month.
Design Edition adds privacy glass and a virtual cockpit with a 10.25-inch colour display over SE Edition, and moves up to 16-inch "Canis" alloys. Built-in navigation, voice control, wireless phone charging and blind-spot monitoring are all on the options list here.

SE L Edition brings the 9.2-inch Škoda navigation system with voice control and web radio, plus a rear-view camera, on 16-inch "Proxima" alloys. It starts at 114 bhp. Front parking sensors and heated front seats can be added as options.
The SE L Edition is currently available from £290.27 a month. Against the Design Edition, that is currently £17.23/mo more expensive.
This is the sporty-looking one, and much of what it adds is about appearance and cabin feel: fabric and artificial leather upholstery, front sports seats and 17-inch "Procyon" alloys. Wireless phone charging and front parking sensors come as standard, and it starts at 114 bhp.

Then there's the performance version. The 130 uses the 175 bhp petrol engine, wears 18-inch Libra black painted diamond-cut alloys with a smoke top coat and top LED headlights, and keeps the artificial leather trim. Testers describe it as quick and grown-up rather than a full hot hatch.
The 130 is currently available from £362.03 a month. Against the Monte Carlo Edition, that is currently £72.92/mo more expensive.
