View dealThe Porsche Cayenne is a large performance SUV that carries four or five people, tows up to 3,500 kg braked and still drives with more precision than almost anything else its size. It sits at the top of Porsche's SUV line-up, above the smaller Macan.
This is the third-generation Cayenne, on sale in this form since 2023. It measures 4.93 m long, carries a boot of 434 to 772 litres depending on the version you pick, and comes with a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty.
Your choice comes down to three things: SUV or Coupe body, Petrol or Plug-in hybrid power, and a trim walk that runs from the Cayenne entry model up to the 729 bhp Turbo.

The Cayenne is Porsche's big family car, available as a Coupe or SUV with 4 or 5 seats, all-wheel drive on every version, and an eight-speed automatic gearbox whichever engine you choose. It has been Porsche's practical model since the original arrived in 2002.
Reviewers consistently rate it the best-driving SUV of its size, praising the steering feel and body control, and they're just as consistent about the quality of the cabin. The criticisms are equally predictable: it's a wide car in a multi-storey, and the options list is long enough to reshape the spec entirely.
Practicality is real rather than theoretical. Euro NCAP awarded the current car five stars, with 91% for adult occupant protection, and servicing falls every 24 months or 20,000 miles.
Two shapes, same car underneath. The SUV has the square roofline and the bigger boot; the Coupe drops the rear glass into a slope and trades some of that space for looks. Both are 4.93 m long on the same 2.90 m wheelbase.
The Cayenne Coupe seats four or five and holds 434 to 592 litres with the rear seats up. You give up boot volume; you get the lower, sleeker roofline.
The Cayenne SUV is the five-seat, load-carrying version: 621 to 772 litres seats up, and 1,557 to 1,708 litres folded. Roof load is 100 kg against the Coupe's 75 kg, so it's the better bet for a roof box.
Because the standard kit list is strong and the car is expensive to own outright. Every Cayenne gets matrix LED headlights, a 360-degree camera, heated and electrically adjustable front seats with memory, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation and a digital instrument cluster.
Safety and driver assistance are standard across the range too: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition and self-steering parking. Add the five-star Euro NCAP result and 3,500 kg of braked towing on the best versions and it covers a lot of ground for one car.
On a lease, the three-year unlimited-mileage warranty usually spans the whole contract, and the plug-in hybrid battery is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles. Worth thinking about your annual mileage and term before you order - our guide to choosing your car walks through it.
Two choices: a Petrol that never needs plugging in, or a Plug-in hybrid that rewards you for charging it. Both are automatic and all-wheel drive.
The Petrol runs 348 to 493 bhp from a 3.0 to 4.0-litre engine, with 0-62 mph in 4.4 to 5.7 seconds depending on version. WLTP economy is 23.2 to 26.4 mpg. Simple to live with, thirsty if you're honest about it, and rated to tow 3,500 kg braked.
The Plug-in hybrid pairs its engine with a 25.9 kWh battery (21.8 kWh usable) for 464 to 729 bhp and 0-62 mph in as little as 3.6 seconds. It charges at up to 11 kW, with the best version going 0-100% in two hours on a home wallbox. Charge it regularly or the numbers stop making sense.

Three everyday trims, then two performance versions. All of them are all-wheel drive, and the standard safety and technology kit listed above applies to every one.
The starting point, with a 348 bhp Petrol engine, 20-inch "Cayenne" alloy wheels and cloth and leather upholstery. Standard kit includes Android Auto, leather door panels and central armrests, heated front seats, active parking assist with the 360 camera, and a power tailgate with gesture control. Adaptive cruise, a panoramic roof and heated rear seats are all available as options.
Black Edition adds a fixed panoramic roof system, self-steering park assist and adaptive cruise control over the entry model, plus 21-inch "Rs Spyder" alloys, full leather, privacy glass, air suspension and a heated steering wheel. The Black Edition is currently available from £1,205.86 a month.
The S is about the engine rather than the equipment: 468 bhp, 20-inch "Cayenne S" alloys and cloth and leather trim, with no added standard features over the Black Edition. Head-up display, panoramic roof, ventilated and massaging front seats stay on the options list. The S is currently available from £1,204.03 a month. Against the Black Edition, that is currently £1.82/mo cheaper. Best value
Then come the performance Cayennes.
The GTS is the sharpest petrol version at 493 bhp, and it adds a heated steering wheel, air suspension and front sports seats over the S, on 21-inch "Rs Spyder" wheels. It's the driver's pick if you'd rather not plug anything in. The GTS is currently available from £1,377.78 a month. Against the S, that is currently £173.75/mo more expensive.
The Turbo is the 729 bhp Plug-in hybrid flagship, on 21-inch "Cayenne Turbo" alloys with leather upholstery, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and air suspension. Blind-spot monitoring and a head-up display are options. The Turbo is currently available from £1,776.48 a month.
Separately, the GT Package Pack is a factory add-on rather than a trim, and brings a power tailgate. Availability of packs varies by version, so check the individual Cayenne deal before you order.
If you like the sloping-roof shape but want to see what else does it, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe covers similar ground. You can also browse the rest of the Porsche range.
