Overview of the Polestar 3

The Polestar 3 SUV effortlessly blends Scandinavian coolness, cutting-edge safety technology and an unwavering commitment to the environment. Polestar is a subsidiary of Volvo and its new EV shares many of its remarkable qualities with its forthcoming sibling, the Volvo EX90 and takes on the likes of the Jaguar I-Pace and the Tesla Model X, though its real competition is the BMW iX.

Polestar 3 in a nutshell

We were invited to go and view a Pre-Launch car and at first glance, the Polestar 3 oozes SUV prowess with the sleek headlights, which are similar to Volvo's impressive 'Thor's Hammer' design, add a touch of elegance. Drivers also get an array of cameras and Lidar sensors to monitor around the EV - which is also preparation for autonomous driving.

The silhouette shows a sloping roofline to set it apart from the crowd and give it a distinct coupe-SUV vibe - and boost wind resistance to help improve battery efficiency. But it's not just about style and innovation since the Polestar 3 embodies the spirit of eco-consciousness, with electric power at its core.

Polestar 3 - Range, Charging & Ride

Range

When considering the Polestar 3, get ready to go the distance with a 107kWh battery pack that will deliver up to 379 miles on a single charge. Beneath its sleek exterior, the Polestar 3 hides a technological marvel: a prismatic cell design battery pack nestled snugly beneath the floor, operating at 400 volts.

It's also encased in an aluminium and reinforced with boron steel, ensuring optimal protection. Plus, there is liquid cooling to regulate temperatures. Drivers also get bidirectional charging capabilities, meaning it could potentially give energy back to the grid or help you recharge another electric car or other battery-powered equipment.

Charging

And when it comes to charging, the  Polestar 3 is one of the fastest charging electric cars on the market. In just 30 minutes, drivers can charge the battery to 80% of capacity, adding more than 265 miles of range. And if you're in a hurry, connecting to a 350kW rapid charger will give you a quick boost of 100 miles in a mere blink of an eye – well, it's around 10 minutes.

Ride

But it's not just about power and range. The Polestar 3 is a master of agility, thanks to its electric Torque Vectoring Dual Clutch function on the rear axle. This advanced system, derived from the excellent Polestar 1, provides exceptional handling and control, making every twist and turn a thrilling experience. Plus, for those energy-conscious moments, the car can even run solely on the front electric motor, saving precious energy along the way.

Whether driving around town or racking up motorway miles, comfort and performance go hand in hand with the Polestar 3. That's mainly down to the dual-chamber air suspension that is fitted as standard to help this SUV effortlessly glide over the road. And for those seeking an extra dose of sportiness, the Performance versions offer a setup that will leave you wanting to push this EV to its limits - though the high level of comfort and cosseting are sacrificed for the sporty fun.

Polestar 3 - Drivetrains & Equipment

Drivetrains

This electrifying SUV comes in two tasty flavours: the standard model and the Performance. With a dual motor setup and a torque split that injects extra power to the rear wheels, get ready for a driving experience that will make your heart race.

The standard Polestar 3 boasts an impressive 489bhp with a huge 840 Nm of torque, ensuring every drive could be an adrenaline-fueled adventure since all of that power is available from a standing start. That sees the Polestar 3 standard model rocket from 0 to 62mph in just five seconds.

If you need more power, the Performance model takes it up a notch with a mind-boggling 517bhp and 910 Nm of torque to shave off a cool 0.3 seconds from that figure. Obviously, with such raw power at your fingertips, you need a braking system that can keep up and that's why the SUV comes with a robust setup that ensures you stop when you have to.

Both models feature 400mm Brembo front discs with four-piston calipers, complemented by 390mm single-piston calipers at the rear.

Equipment

Step inside the Polestar 3 and you'll be greeted by a minimalist design that oozes sophistication.

The wide, narrow dashboard sets the stage with a large portrait-orientated touchscreen at the centre. Every detail has been carefully selected for both style and sustainability - from animal welfare-certified leather to environmentally conscious materials, this SUV is a testament to the future of electric SUVs.

However, unlike its cousin, the EX90, the Polestar 3 doesn't come with seven seats, but it does have lots of space in the cabin and a boot size of 484 litres with the seats up.

The standard model comes loaded with:
• 21-inch alloy wheels
• Pilot Assist for advanced adaptive cruise control
• Luxurious wool upholstery
• Bowers and Wilkins sound system.

The Performance variant adds 22-inch alloy wheels and a suspension setup that will make you feel like a race car driver!
