Peugeot 408 Lease Deals

The Peugeot 408 is a five-seat saloon offered with a 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.6-litre plug-in hybrid or a 58 kWh electric powertrain, in Allure, GT and GT Premium trim. This page explains who it suits and how to pick the right version before you look at the live lease deals.

The Peugeot 408 is a five-seat, five-door saloon with a low, sharply creased body, and it exists mainly because its maker wanted something that wasn't another mid-size SUV. If the styling appeals, the rest of the car is more conventional than it looks.

It sits above the 308 in Peugeot's range and below the larger SUVs, and reviewers consistently describe it as roomy in the back seats, comfortable on a motorway and more engaging down a country road than most crossovers.

Choosing one is straightforward: one body, three powertrains - petrol, plug-in hybrid or electric - and three trims, Allure, GT and GT Premium.

About the Peugeot 408

The 408 is Peugeot's style-led family saloon: five seats, five doors, front-wheel drive on every version, and an automatic gearbox whichever powertrain you pick. It's the car for someone who wants space without a tall SUV shape.

Road testers reliably praise three things - the rear legroom, the ride and body control at speed, and the sheer visual presence of the thing. The usual criticisms are the low-set steering wheel and driver's display, which suits some drivers and irritates others, and an infotainment menu structure that takes learning.

Peugeot backs the 408's battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles, guaranteeing 70% of capacity, with a 12-year anti-corrosion guarantee across the range. Every 408 carries a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel.

Why lease a Peugeot 408?

Because the standard equipment list is generous at every level, so you're not forced up the range to get the basics. Every 408 has keyless entry and start, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, air conditioning, privacy glass and ambient lighting.

Safety and assistance kit is standard throughout too: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, a rear-view camera and rear parking sensors. Add rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, power-folding mirrors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, an electric parking brake, DAB radio, a wi-fi hotspot and voice control.

Leasing also sidesteps the question nobody can answer about a distinctive-looking car: what it'll be worth in three or four years. That's the funder's problem, not yours.

Which 408 powertrain is right for me?

Pick on where you drive and whether you can plug in at home: petrol if you can't, electric if you can and your journeys fit the range, plug-in hybrid if you want both.

Petrol

The 1.2-litre turbo petrol makes 143 bhp and 230 Nm through a six-speed automatic, with WLTP economy of 57.9-58.4 mpg and CO2 of 113-114 g/km. Nothing to plug in, nothing to plan around. Insurance groups 21-22.

Plug-in hybrid

The plug-in pairs a 1.6-litre turbo with a 16.2 kWh battery for 237 bhp and 360 Nm through a seven-speed automatic. It charges at up to 7 kW - 0-100% in 2.1 hours at 7.4 kW on the best version - so it only makes sense with a home charger. Insurance groups 30-31.

Electric

The electric 408 uses a 58 kWh battery and 207 bhp motor, with up to 283 miles of WLTP range. Rapid charging peaks at 120 kW, giving 20-80% in 31 minutes on the best version, or 5.4 hours for the same top-up on a 7.4 kW home charger. Insurance groups 33-34.

Which 408 trim should I choose?

All three trims - Allure, GT and GT Premium - share 19-inch "Adakite" alloy wheels and the full standard safety kit, so this is a comfort-and-convenience decision rather than a specification cliff.

Allure

Allure has full LED headlights, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a multifunction split leather steering wheel, cloth upholstery, alloy wheel 'star' centre caps and Visio Park 1 with a 180-degree colour reversing camera and wash system.

The Allure is currently available from £376.66 a month.

GT

GT adds Peugeot i-Cockpit, a grained leather steering wheel with GT logo insert that's also heated, front parking sensors to go with the rear ones, and Peugeot Open & Go keyless access and start. It also brings matrix LED headlights, wireless phone charging and built-in navigation.

The GT is currently available from £388.26 a month. Against the Allure, that is currently £11.60/mo more expensive.

GT Premium

GT Premium swaps in Alcantara with Isabella leather-effect cloth upholstery, three-stage heated front seats and four-way electric lumbar adjustment. It also adds massaging front seats with electric memory, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and a powered tailgate.

The GT Premium is currently available from £391.61 a month. Against the GT, that is currently £3.35/mo more expensive.

Five paint colours are offered across the range: Elixir Red, Flare Green, Nera Black, Okenite White and Selenium Grey. If you're torn between trims, our guide to choosing the right spec, term and mileage is a sensible half-hour.

Peugeot 408 FAQs

It works well for a family of four. There are five seats and five doors, and reviewers consistently single out rear legroom as a strength, though the sloping roofline means headroom in the back is tighter than in a boxier car.

To get the benefit, yes. The 16.2 kWh battery charges at up to 7 kW, and the best version goes from 0-100% in 2.1 hours at 7.4 kW. Without regular charging you're carrying the battery's weight around for nothing, so we'd steer you to the petrol instead.

Up to 283 miles on the WLTP test, from the 58 kWh battery. Expect less in cold weather or at sustained motorway speeds. Rapid charging tops out at 120 kW, which gives 20-80% in 31 minutes on the best version. Our electric car guide explains how to read range figures.

Check the boot capacity figure on the individual deal for the version you're considering. Worth knowing: every 408 comes with a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel.

The 408's battery is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles, guaranteeing 70% of its original capacity, across every version with a battery. Paintwork is guaranteed for 3 years and there's a 12-year anti-corrosion guarantee. On a typical lease term you'll be well inside all of those.

It depends entirely on what's available at the time, and it moves as pricing is refreshed - the dearest version to buy isn't always the dearest to lease. Allure currently starts from £376.66 a month. Compare the live 408 deals below.
