The Mercedes GLS is a large stylish SUV that offers owners seven seats and lots of comfort. Indeed, there's plenty of space for everyone and lots of equipment too.
The Mercedes GLS offers two engines, there is an excellent diesel unit in the 350d which will return 37 mpg with emissions of 199g/km which is a good performer in everyday use. The engine produces 255 bhp and will reach 62 mph in less than eight seconds so, for most people, the diesel unit offers better economy and performance levels they can enjoy every day. There's also the GLS 63 AMG which has a V8 engine under the bonnet which will return 23 mpg and emissions of 288g/km while it's not cheap to run it does offer exceptional levels of performance. Indeed, the 5.5 litre petrol engine produces 580 bhp and will reach 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds - that much faster than some sports cars can manage.
At the luxury end of the SUV segment, the Mercedes GLS is worth considering because of the space on board for passengers and it will carry seven people in comfort.
It's a fantastic motorway cruiser where its comfort levels and suspension really come to the fore particularly at speed. It's a good performer around town and on winding country roads where the cabin is quiet and comfortable. The Mercedes GLS with the diesel engine also has the firm's excellent nine speed automatic gearbox which delivers smooth performance while the petrol engine has a seven speed automatic box that will move swiftly through the gears.
With seven seats in place, the boot size is 295 litres and with the rear row folded flat that expands to 680 litres. It helps that the middle row can also be folded flat so for those who need the extra space of 2,300 litres then this will prove useful.
It goes without saying that there's lots of equipment fitted as standard including air suspension, parking assistant and keyless entry. The Mercedes GLS also comes with an excellent infotainment system as well as satnav, panoramic sunroof and leather upholstery. There are various options including one to boost drive comfort and the car's agility as well as other features such as temperature controlled cupholders, massage seats, electric blinds and a special designed for the interior trim.
Essentially, the Mercedes GLS offers comfort and style and when driven at speed on the motorway it's a very quiet and pleasant place to be and it deals with bumps and can deliver a turn of speed when necessary.
