View dealThe Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe is the sleeker, lower-roofed version of Mercedes-Benz's best-selling mid-size SUV. It seats five, measures about 4.76 m long, and every version is automatic with all-wheel drive.
It sits above the GLA and GLB in the Mercedes-Benz range and below the larger GLE Coupe, aimed at drivers who want SUV height and presence with a more styled body than the standard GLC.
The choice is straightforward: one body, three powertrains - petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid - and six trims, from AMG Line through to the 443 bhp AMG versions.

This is the third-generation GLC Coupe, on sale in this form since 2023. It takes the mechanicals of the regular GLC and wraps them in a fastback body, with the same five seats and a boot of 390 to 545 litres depending on the version you pick.
Reviewers consistently praise the cabin presentation and the road presence - among coupe-SUVs, it's usually judged one of the better-resolved designs. The criticisms are consistent too: rear headroom is tighter than the standard GLC, the sloping tailgate cuts rear visibility, and the sports suspension on entry trims rides firmly on poor surfaces.
Safety is not in doubt. It holds a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, with 95% for adult occupant protection, and every car comes with a 3-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty.
Because the standard kit list is generous and the specification decisions are mostly about style rather than safety. Every GLC Coupe, whichever engine or trim, gets built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control and an electrically adjustable driver's seat.
Driver assistance is standard across the board as well: autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, front and rear parking sensors, self-steering parking and automatic high beam.
On practicality, be realistic about the shape. The boot runs from 390 litres in the plug-in hybrid to 545 litres on petrol and diesel versions with the seats up, and diesel models tow up to 2,500 kg braked. If you tow a caravan most weekends, the diesel is the one to look at.
Three engines, all automatic and all four-wheel drive: petrol for pace, diesel for long-distance economy and towing, plug-in hybrid for lower emissions if you can charge regularly.
Petrol versions run from 255 bhp to 443 bhp, with a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Nothing to plug in, 0-62 mph takes between 4.2 and 6.3 seconds depending on version, and WLTP economy sits between 29.7 and 39.2 mpg. Best suited to lower-mileage drivers who want the performance.
The 2-litre diesel gives 194 to 265 bhp, again automatic and all-wheel drive. It's the efficiency pick for high-mileage drivers, with WLTP economy of 50.4 to 54.3 mpg and CO2 from 138 g/km. It also has the highest towing capacity in the range at 2,500 kg braked.
The plug-in hybrid pairs a 2-litre turbo with a 25.3 kWh battery for 309 to 328 bhp. It needs charging to make sense - at 11 kW the best version refills from 0-100% in 2.8 hours - and the battery eats into luggage room, with 390 litres of boot. Company car drivers should start here.

Six trims: three everyday specifications, then three AMG performance versions that all share the same 443 bhp petrol engine.
The starting point, on 19" AMG 5 spoke alloy wheels in painted black with a high sheen finish, with Artico man-made leather, heated front seats, hard disc navigation and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Sports suspension, sports front seats, traffic sign recognition and electric seat memory are included; a fixed towbar is available as an option. The AMG Line is currently available from £841.42 a month.
A plug-in hybrid trim, and largely a looks step rather than a kit one: 20" AMG multi spoke light alloy wheels in painted black rim flange with a high sheen finish, Artico man-made leather and electrically adjustable door mirrors. A fixed towbar is an option here too. The Urban Edition is currently available from £920.62 a month.
The best-equipped everyday trim. Over the Urban Edition it adds 20" AMG multi spoke alloys in painted black with a high sheen finish, Digital Light LED headlights, MBUX augmented reality navigation, an electric panoramic glass sunroof, head-up display, 360-degree camera, massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel and a hands-free tailgate. Air suspension, four-wheel steering, adaptive cruise control and active lane-change assist are all options. The AMG Line Premium Plus is currently available from £1,195.26 a month. Against the Urban Edition, that is currently £274.64/mo more expensive.
Then come the AMG versions, all 443 bhp petrol, on 21-inch wheels with leather upholstery and a much harder-edged character.
The entry point to 443 bhp, on 21" AMG Y Spoke alloys, with Digital Light LED headlights, MBUX augmented reality navigation, an electric panoramic glass sunroof, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry, a 360-degree camera, hands-free tailgate and adaptive suspension. The AMG Premium is currently available from £1,201.75 a month.
Same engine, 21" AMG Cross Spoke alloys, and two additions over the AMG Premium: AMG Nappa leather upholstery and a head-up display. Heated front seats, adaptive cruise control and active lane-change assist are available as options. The AMG Premium Plus is currently available from £1,339.57 a month. Against the AMG Premium, that is currently £137.82/mo more expensive.
An edition of the AMG Premium Plus, keeping the 443 bhp engine and 21" AMG Cross Spoke wheels, and distinguished by its AMG leather upholstery. Adaptive cruise control and active lane-change assist remain options. The AMG Edition 53 is currently available from £1,379.38 a month. Against the AMG Premium Plus, that is currently £39.80/mo more expensive.
