The Leapmotor B05 is a five-seat, five-door electric hatchback: a Golf-sized family car in a market that has gone almost entirely over to crossovers. One battery, one power output, one trim, and a long list of standard kit.
It suits drivers who want an electric family car with a genuinely useful range and don't want to spend an evening working out which options box unlocks a heated steering wheel. Reviewers consistently point to the equipment level and the space inside as its strongest cards.
The choice is refreshingly simple. There's one body, one powertrain - the 67.1 kWh electric with 215 bhp and rear-wheel drive - and one trim, called B05, so the decisions that remain are colour, contract length and mileage.

The B05 is Leapmotor's family hatchback. It's 4.43 m long, seats five, and has a 345-litre boot that grows to 1,400 litres with the rear seats folded.
Leapmotor is a Chinese electric-car maker that arrived in the UK with Stellantis backing, and the B05 is the first of its cars designed around a conventional hatchback shape rather than a raised crossover body.
Road testers tend to agree on the character: comfortable, quiet and easy to drive rather than sporting, despite the rear-wheel-drive layout. The common criticisms are a touchscreen-led cabin with very few physical controls, driver-assistance systems that intervene eagerly, and a boot that's smaller than some rivals. The battery is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles, guaranteeing 70% of its capacity.
Because there's only one specification, you get the full equipment list whichever B05 you lease - and that list is unusually long for a compact electric hatchback. Nothing important is hidden behind an options pack.
Every car has a fixed panoramic glass roof with an electric sunblind, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, ambient lighting, privacy glass and a wi-fi hotspot. A heat pump is standard too, which helps protect range in cold weather.
On safety and assistance, every B05 gets autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, automatic high beam, a 360-degree camera and rear parking sensors. Useful in a car with a turning circle of 10.3 m.
There's only one, so this decision is really about whether an electric car fits your life. The B05 is battery-electric only - there's no petrol, hybrid or range-extender version - so it needs plugging in.
A single rear-mounted motor drives the rear wheels through an automatic, with 215 bhp, 240 Nm and 0-62 mph in 6.7 seconds. The 67.1 kWh battery gives up to 300 miles on the WLTP test and an official 3.9 miles/kWh, which makes it viable as a household's only car if you can charge at home or at work.
Charging is a strong point. The best version manages 30-80% in 17 minutes at 174 kW on a rapid charger, or 30-80% in 3.5 hours at 11 kW on AC. If you're new to this, our electric car guide explains the jargon in plain English.
| Electric | |
|---|---|
| Boot | 345 litres |
| Power | 215 bhp |
| Seats | 5 |
| Battery | 67.1 kWh |
| 0–62 mph | 6.7 s |
| Electric range (WLTP) | 300 miles |
There's one trim, also called B05, so there's no specification ladder to climb and no comparing feature lists. Everything Leapmotor fits to the car is included.
The single trim pairs the 215 bhp rear-wheel-drive motor with 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, GPS navigation, Android Auto and a fixed panoramic roof with an electric sunblind. Upholstery is artificial leather, and insurance sits in group 34.
Five paint colours are offered across the range: Black, Galaxy silver, Lightning yellow, Starry night blue and Windy Grey. That, plus term and mileage, is the extent of the specifying. Availability of individual colours and stock cars changes, so check the current offers or ask our team.
Specifications from Leapmotor's UK data; equipment, colours and availability vary by version and change over time, so check the individual deal before you order.
