The JAECOO 5 is a 4.38m compact SUV with five seats, a 480-litre boot and a 7-year/100,000-mile manufacturer warranty, sold with a 1.6-litre petrol or a 208 bhp electric powertrain. This page explains who it suits and how to choose between the Pure and Luxury trims before you pick a lease deal.
The JAECOO 5 is a compact five-seat SUV, 4.38 metres long, sold as one body style with either a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine or a 208 bhp electric powertrain. It's the smaller of JAECOO's SUVs, aimed squarely at family buyers who want space and equipment without a premium badge.
It suits drivers stepping out of a supermini or small crossover who want a higher seating position, a 480-litre boot and a long warranty. Reviewers consistently rate it for interior room, kit and the size of that boot, and consistently criticise the way it drives.
The choice is simple: one body, two powertrains (petrol or electric), and two trims, Pure and Luxury. Nothing else to decide beyond paint.

The 5 is JAECOO's compact SUV, a smaller companion to the brand's larger models. It is five seats, five doors and front-wheel drive whichever powertrain you pick.
Road testers are broadly consistent about it. The upright styling, the generous standard equipment and the 480-litre boot (1,180 litres with the rear seats folded) earn praise; the steering, the ride over poor surfaces and the petrol engine's refinement attract criticism.
The other thing that gets mentioned in almost every review is the warranty: 7 years or 100,000 miles, with 8 years or 100,000 miles on the drive battery of the electric version, guaranteeing 70% of capacity. For a brand that is still new to UK buyers, that matters.
Because the standard specification is unusually complete, so you are not trying to price up options to make the car sensible. Every 5, whichever trim and powertrain, gets adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, keyless entry and start, a digital instrument cluster and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The driver-assistance list is equally full: blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, automatic high beam, and front and rear parking sensors on every version. Power-folding mirrors, DAB radio, voice control and an electric parking brake are standard too.
Practicality is the other reason people shortlist it. Five seats, 480 litres of boot with the seats up, 1.86 m wide and 1.65 m tall, so it's easy to see out of and easy to park.
Two choices, and the deciding factor is whether you can charge. The electric 5 is quicker and cheaper to run if you have a home or workplace charger; the petrol suits drivers who can't charge or cover long, unpredictable mileage.
A straightforward turbo petrol with a 7-speed automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive, producing 275 Nm and 0-62 mph in 10.2 seconds. Official economy is 40.4 mpg with CO2 of 159 g/km, so it's a retail car rather than a company car choice. No plug, no charging to plan.
The electric 5 uses a 60.9 kWh battery for a WLTP range of up to 248 miles and 3.7 miles per kWh, with 288 Nm and 0-62 mph in 7.7 seconds. Charging peaks at 80 kW, giving 30-80% in 27 minutes on the best version. Automatic, front-wheel drive.

Two trims, Pure and Luxury, and the gap between them is comfort kit rather than mechanical difference: both use the same powertrains, the same 18-inch alloy wheels and the same front-wheel drive.
Pure covers the basics properly: 18-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 540-degree panoramic view camera, a synthetic leather steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and air conditioning. The Pure is currently available from £269.60 a month.
Luxury adds LED headlights, a full-length panoramic sunroof with an opening front section, leather door guards, a heated steering wheel and heated and ventilated front seats. It also brings artificial leather upholstery, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, a powered tailgate, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting and rain-sensing wipers. The Luxury is currently available from £303.11 a month. Against the Pure, that is currently £33.50/mo more expensive.
If you're weighing the 5 against other compact SUVs, the Leapmotor C10, the Nissan Qashqai, the OMODA 5 and the Kia EV4 all cover similar ground. You can also see the rest of the range on our JAECOO leasing page.
