The Honda Prelude is a three-door, four-seat hybrid coupe, and it is the most unusual car Honda currently sells in the UK. Where most of the range is hatchbacks and SUVs, the Prelude is a low, wide, style-led coupe built for drivers who want something different on the driveway.
It suits one or two people who cover a mix of town and open-road miles, want automatic hybrid running costs, and can live with four seats and a 264-litre boot. Families needing rear-seat space every day should look elsewhere in Honda's line-up.
The choice here is refreshingly short: one body, one self-charging hybrid powertrain and one trim, Advance. You are really deciding on colour, wheels and contract terms rather than picking your way through a spec sheet.

The Prelude is a revived nameplate: five earlier generations ran from the late 1970s to 2001, and this is the sixth-generation car, on sale in this form since 2025. It's a coupe in the older sense - comfortable, refined, quick enough rather than ferocious.
Reviewers consistently praise the chassis, the steering and the ride, and just as consistently wish it had more power for the way it looks. Road testers also point out the rear seats are tight and the 264-litre boot is small by hatchback standards, though it opens up to 760 litres with the rear seats folded.
Think of it as a compact grand tourer with a sporting edge, not a stripped-out track car.
Because the range is a single, generously equipped specification, so there's very little to get wrong at order stage, and a lease keeps you in a low-volume coupe for a fixed monthly cost without worrying what a niche two-door will be worth in three or four years.
Every Prelude comes with adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and ambient lighting. Adaptive suspension, front sports seats and paddle shifters are standard too.
Driver assistance is comprehensive: autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera. Parking is helped by a tight 11.6-metre turning circle, useful in a car 1.88 metres wide before you count the mirrors.
There's only one, so the decision is simply whether a self-charging hybrid coupe fits how you drive.
A 2.0-litre petrol engine works with a 1.1 kWh battery and drives the front wheels through a single-speed automatic. It never needs plugging in - the car charges itself as you drive and brake. WLTP economy is 54.3 mpg, CO2 is 117 g/km and top speed is 117 mph.
In practice the electric side does most of the low-speed work, so town driving is quiet and smooth, while the paddle shifters give you something to do on a good road. It suits drivers who want hybrid economy without changing their refuelling habits.

There's one trim in the UK range, Advance, and it's the well-equipped version rather than a stripped-back starting point.
Advance rides on 19-inch "Spoke Design" alloy wheels and comes with part leather upholstery over sports seats, a genuine leather flat-bottomed steering wheel with alloy paddle shifters, heated front seats, LED headlights and wireless Apple CarPlay. Four paint colours are offered: crystal black, meteoroid grey, moonlit white and racing blue.
The Advance is currently available from £579.11 a month.
