The Ford Mustang Convertible is a four-seat, two-door soft-top with a 5.0-litre V8 driving the rear wheels. It is the open-air version of Ford's longest-running performance car, and in the UK it comes one way only: petrol, 440bhp, and unashamedly old-school.
It suits a driver who wants noise, drama and a folding roof rather than lap times or low running costs. Four seats are listed, though the rear pair are best treated as occasional space.
The choice here is refreshingly simple. One body, one engine, one trim called GT, and a decision between the six-speed manual and the 10-speed automatic.

This is the current, seventh-generation Mustang, on sale in this form since 2024. It measures 4.81 metres long and 1.92 metres wide (2.10 metres with the mirrors out), seats four, and comes with a three-year, 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
Reviewers consistently praise the naturally aspirated V8's soundtrack and the fact that a manual gearbox still exists here at all. They are equally consistent about the downsides: economy of 23.3-23.5mpg and CO2 of 280-282 g/km are what they are, and road testers find the soft-top a touch softer and less precise through corners than the fixed-roof car.
Servicing falls every 12 months or 10,000 miles, and there's a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel.
The Convertible gives you a folding roof and open-air V8 noise; the Mustang Coupe gives you slightly less weight. Both seat four, both have two doors, and both share the 61-litre fuel tank.
Length is near enough identical, at 4.81 metres for the Convertible against 4.81-4.82 metres for the Coupe. The difference that shows on paper is mass: the Convertible weighs 1,868-1,876kg, the Coupe 1,808-1,837kg. Height is 1.41 metres on both.

Because the standard kit list is genuinely full and the spec decisions are few. Every Mustang Convertible has leather upholstery, 19-inch alloy wheels, heated, ventilated and cooled front sports seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging and a digital instrument cluster.
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, built-in navigation, DAB radio, climate control and ambient lighting are all included, as are power-folding mirrors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights.
Driver assistance covers adaptive cruise control with adjustable speed limiter, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic high beam, LED headlights, a rear-view camera and rear parking sensors. Insurance sits in group 47-48, which is worth a quote before you order.
There's one engine, so the real decision is which gearbox you want bolted to it.
An eight-cylinder, 5.0-litre petrol engine with 440bhp and 540Nm, driving the rear wheels. Nothing to plug in, nothing to charge. Official economy is 23.3-23.5mpg, top speed 155mph, and 0-62mph takes 5.0 to 5.4 seconds depending on which of the two gearboxes you choose.
The six-speed manual is the enthusiast's pick and the reason many people look at this car in the first place. The 10-speed automatic is the easier companion in traffic and on long motorway runs. Both are rear-wheel drive, so winter tyres are a sensible conversation.

There's only one: GT. That makes the order form short and the spec argument shorter.
GT is the 440bhp rear-wheel-drive Convertible, on 19-inch alloy wheels with leather upholstery and sports seats. It includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a heated leather flat-bottomed steering wheel, heated, ventilated and cooled front seats, a rear-view camera with rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control with an adjustable speed limiter.
Adaptive suspension is offered as a factory option. Nine paint colours are available across the range: Absolute Black, Adriatic blue, Avalanche grey, Carbonised grey, Molten magenta, Orange fury, Oxford White, Race red and Vapour blue.
