The Changan Deepal S05 is a five-seat electric family SUV, 4.60 metres long, with a 492-litre boot and a 69 kWh battery giving up to 301 miles of WLTP range. It's aimed squarely at drivers who want an electric car that's easy to live with rather than exciting to drive.
The choice is deliberately narrow: one SUV body, one battery, one trim called Max, and a decision between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
If you want a family EV with a long standard equipment list and a 7-year / 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty, without picking through option packs, this is the sort of car that makes an order form short.

The Deepal S05 is Changan's electric SUV: five doors, five seats, 492 litres of boot space with the rear seats up and 1,385 litres folded.
Reviewers consistently praise the cabin quality and the amount of kit fitted as standard, and they rate the interior materials above the class average for the money. The criticism is just as consistent: the soft suspension set-up wallows on poor British roads, and the steering feels remote. Road testers also note the touchscreen carries almost every control.
It earned a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, with 94% for adult occupant protection and 87% for child occupants.
Because the standard specification is unusually complete, which matters on a lease: you're choosing a car for two to four years, and what's fitted on day one is what you live with. There are no trim levels to climb through here.
Every Deepal S05 has adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory, a powered tailgate, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a heat pump. Safety kit runs to blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition and front and rear parking sensors.

There's one: a 69 kWh battery-electric drivetrain, automatic, offered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. No petrol, no hybrid, so you'll need somewhere to charge, ideally at home overnight.
Power runs from 268 bhp to 429 bhp across the range, with 0-62 mph between 7.5 and 5.5 seconds. WLTP range is 276 to 301 miles, and efficiency 3.6 to 3.9 miles/kWh.

There's only one: Max. Changan fits everything as standard and leaves you to pick drive layout, paint and a couple of options.
Max brings 20-inch alloy wheels, online navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree panoramic camera with transparent chassis view, a vegan leather steering wheel and artificial leather upholstery. The entry version has 268 bhp and rear-wheel drive.
An electric sunroof and a detachable towbar are available as factory options on the Max.
