Overview of the BMW M2

Engines and performance for the BMW M2

The BMW M2 is powered by a six-cylinder 3.0 litre twin-turbocharged petrol unit that produces 404bhp. The M2 Competition will deliver a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of just 4.2 seconds. That's a lightning fast performance, which makes the M2 not only quicker than many well-known sports cars but also a more practical offering. Fuel economy for this level of performances is around 35 mpg.

Equipment and handling

While it is based on the 2 Series coupe, the BMW M2 Competition delivers blistering performance from the excellent twin-turbocharged petrol engine. The M2 is slightly wider than its sibling which makes it a surprisingly comfortable car that is great fun to drive. The body styling has also been made to appear more aggressive with larger air intakes and wider wheel arches. BMW has also fitted quad exhausts and 19-inch alloy wheels. The interior has been well designed with comfortable black leather seats featuring unique blue stitching and the M logo is dotted around the cabin. Standard kit includes cruise control, satnav, DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity. Out on the road, the BMW M2 handles like the much larger M4 with precise steering and the suspension delivering the fun. It's also a comfortable car on long motorway journeys and winding country roads showcase the grip and handling in a thrilling way. The seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox offers a smooth changing experience so the car will be propelled to excellent levels of performance. The car also delivers excellent responses across the rev range with the second turbocharger really making a difference when travelling at lower revs. And for those who want to take the M2 Competition onto the racetrack, then you'll find an agile and strong performing vehicle that is a delight to drive. There are three driving modes to enjoy: sport or sport+ as well as comfort. In the comfort mode, the M2 is a powerful but restrained performer and in sport and sport+ mode the throttle response is made sharper, the steering becomes more responsive and the exhaust note is louder. The electronic stability control is also tweaked to the point where sliding into corners is easy. Essentially, the BMW M2 is a well-designed sports car offering that is a practical alternative to its better-known rivals and it is a high-quality creation that has been designed with drivers in mind.
