While the Audi Q8 is a very large SUV, it has an impressive design and is great to drive. It is certainly Audi's luxury SUV flagship with an elegant interior and lots of equipment.

Engines and performance for the Audi Q8

Relaunched in 2018, the Audi Q8 is available with a 3.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine with a mild hybrid system to deliver better levels of fuel efficiency. The diesel engine offers a good turn of speed, completing the 0 to 62 mph sprint in just 6.3 seconds and then onto a top speed of 144 mph. The engine will produce 286 PS and torque of 600 Nm to deliver excellent levels of performance with the hybrid system collecting energy to be stored in the lithium-ion battery. Among the features is the ability for the Audi Q8 to coast at speeds of up to 99 mph with the engine switched off - the system is able to restart the engine quickly to deliver power.

Equipment and handling

For those who want to take their Q8 off-road, there is impressive permanent quattro all-wheel drive availability with a ground clearance of 254 mm so it is able to deal with some fairly rugged terrain. The SUV-coupe styling also manages to make the Q8 look different from its competitors with a sloping roof line. The body has also better levels of stiffness to deal with off-road handling and when putting the large car through its paces on winding country roads. Around town, the Q8 is an agile and able performer with the standard adaptive air suspension really showing what the car can deliver at speed on motorways and rough roads. There's also lane departure warning and an accident assist system to ensure the car does not become involved in a collision with the vehicle in front. Drivers will also find emergency assist brings peace of mind which will, if the driver is inactive or does not respond to a series of warnings, take over control of the Q8 and bring it to a stop in its own lane. Essentially, all of the driver safety and assistance systems combine to create an impressive SUV that is relaxing to drive and easy to live with on a daily basis. The stylish interior is a great place to spend time and the Audi Q8 is a sound alternative in a competitive segment for those who want a stylish and large SUV that is packed with equipment.
