Alpine A290 Electric Lease Deals

The Alpine A290 is Alpine's small electric hot hatch, a five-door based on Renault's 5 with bespoke suspension, steering and brakes, 175-215 bhp and up to 226 miles of WLTP range. This page explains what the car is like, what each of the eight trims gives you, and how to choose.

The Alpine A290 is a small five-door electric hatchback built around fun rather than space. It's Alpine's entry point - the everyday car in a line-up that made its name with lightweight sports cars.

The choice is simple. One body, one powertrain - a 52 kWh battery driving the front wheels through an automatic, with 175-215 bhp depending on version - and eight trims, from GT up to the Premiere Edition.

It suits a driver who wants something small, quick enough and genuinely entertaining on a back road, and who can live with tight rear seats. If you want the full Alpine range, that's here too.

About the Alpine A290

The A290 is a compact electric hot hatch: 4.00 m long, five seats, 300-326 litres of boot space depending on version, and a 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty. Alpine engineered it well beyond a badge job.

Reviewers consistently praise the handling balance, the ride quality over British roads and the way the whole car feels light on its feet - it weighs 1,479 kg, which is modest for an EV. The steering is quicker and more precise than the car it's related to.

The criticisms are just as consistent: rear space is tight, cabin storage is mean, and straight-line pace is brisk rather than dramatic. Road testers tend to call it a warm hatch that flatters you, not one that frightens you.

Why lease an Alpine A290?

Because every version is well equipped and the running costs are an EV's. Adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, keyless entry and start, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a heat pump, LED headlights, privacy glass, sports suspension and sports seats are standard across the range.

Safety kit is standard too: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, a rear-view camera and front and rear parking sensors. Euro NCAP awarded the A290 four stars, with 80% for adult occupant protection and 68% for safety assist.

Practically, you get five seats, a 10.2 m turning circle for town work and a tyre repair kit rather than a spare. The battery carries its own 8-year / 100,000-mile warranty guaranteeing 70% of capacity.

Which A290 powertrain is right for me?

There's only one: a single electric motor driving the front wheels. No engine, no gearbox to think about, and charging instead of fuel stops.

Electric

A 52 kWh battery, 175-215 bhp, front-wheel drive and an automatic. WLTP range is up to 226 miles, 0-62 mph takes 6.4-7.4 seconds depending on version, and efficiency is 3.7-3.8 miles/kWh. It suits drivers with home or workplace charging and mostly shorter journeys. Our electric car guide covers the basics if this is your first EV.

Which A290 trim should I choose?

Eight trims, split by two things: 175 bhp or 215 bhp, and cloth or Nappa leather. Several of the others are about appearance rather than extra equipment.

GT

The starting point, with 175 bhp, 19-inch "Iconic" alloy wheels and cloth upholstery. Standard kit includes full LED headlights, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated seats, a Nappa leather sports steering wheel with a flat bottom and midpoint marker, and a driver attention monitoring camera. A heated steering wheel, self-steering parking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and power-folding mirrors are all available as options. Deals for it come and go - ask our team what's live.

GT+

Mechanically and practically the same car as the GT: 175 bhp, 19-inch "Iconic" wheels, cloth seats, the same options list. The difference is presentation rather than equipment. Availability moves around, so drop us a line.

GT Premium

Still 175 bhp, but now with Nappa leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel and power-folding door mirrors as standard. Self-steering parking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert stay optional. The GT Premium is currently available from £366.29 a month.

GT Performance

This is where power steps up to 215 bhp, with 0-62 mph as quick as 6.4 seconds depending on version. Cloth upholstery and 19-inch "Iconic" wheels return, with the heated steering wheel and parking aids back on the options list. Ask us what's available.

GT Performance+

The same 215 bhp car with the same cloth trim and "Iconic" wheels - a different look rather than a different specification. Options match the GT Performance. Deals appear and disappear, so check with our team.

GTS

215 bhp with 19-inch "Snowflake" alloy wheels, plus Nappa leather upholstery and a heated steering wheel as standard. Self-steering parking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert remain options. Worth an email if you want one.

GTS+

Same 215 bhp, same Snowflake wheels, same leather - a styling variant of the GTS rather than an equipment upgrade. The driver aids stay optional. Availability varies; we'll tell you what's on.

Premiere Edition

The final version in the range, and the only trim with self-steering parking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert fitted as standard. 215 bhp, Snowflake wheels, leather. The Premiere Edition is currently available from £394.25 a month.

Similar cars to consider

If the A290's focus on driving feels like more than you need, the car it's built on is the obvious alternative: the Renault 5 is the same size and shape, with a calmer set-up and a wider choice of batteries.

Alpine A290 FAQs

It works as a family car for two adults and small children, but not much beyond that. There are five seats and a boot of 300-326 litres depending on version, though reviewers consistently point out that rear legroom is tight and cabin storage is limited.

Up to 226 miles on the WLTP test from the 52 kWh battery, with 224 miles at the other end of the range. Official efficiency is 3.7-3.8 miles/kWh. Expect less on a cold motorway run, as with any EV.

The fastest charging rate is 100 kW, which takes the best version from 15-80% in 30 minutes. On an 11 kW AC supply, 15-100% takes 4.4 hours on the best version. Our guide on how to charge an electric car explains the options.

Euro NCAP gave the A290 four stars, scoring 80% for adult occupants, 80% for children, 76% for vulnerable road users and 68% for safety assist. Automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist and traffic sign recognition are standard on every version.

Three years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, from Alpine. The battery is covered separately for eight years or 100,000 miles, with a guarantee that it will retain at least 70% of its capacity over that period.

Yes. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and self-steering parking are standard on the Premiere Edition and available as factory options on every other trim. If you want them, say so before the order goes in.

It depends entirely on what's available at the time, and it isn't always the entry trim. Rentals shift as stock and pricing are refreshed, so the honest answer is to look at the current A290 deals below and compare them on the term and mileage you actually want.

Specifications from Alpine's UK data and Euro NCAP; equipment and availability vary by version, so check the individual deal before you order.
