This is the impressive new BMW X7 which will enter the competitive 4×4 segment and offer drivers ‘unrivalled luxury’.

That’s a big claim for the firm’s new flagship X-model and there will be three versions available when it’s launched next April.

There’s plenty of space on board with three rows of seats and, unusually, the third row offers two full-size seats to accommodate adults.

The X7 is the largest model in the firm’s line-up and delivers a new chassis and powertrain technology for a versatile and practical offering.

Engines for the new BMW X7

The engines for the new BMW X7 feature two six-cylinder diesels and one six-cylinder petrol unit.

The units have been specially developed and feature turbocharging and are coupled to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission with a wider spread of gear ratios and control electronics.

BMW says this will boost efficiencies overall with the diesel engines returning around 44 mpg and the petrol unit 41 mpg.

The top speed for the entry-level xDrive30d is 141 mph from an engine producing 265 bhp and for the petrol version it is 155 mph with the engine producing 400 bhp.

The xDrive40i has an engine producing 340 bhp with a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of 6.1 seconds.

The new BMW X7 has lots of equipment and will feature the firm’s intelligent personal assistant as standard.

There’s also the option of BMW’s driving assistant professional which includes a cruise control function with braking capabilities along with pedestrian warning and collision warning.

This system also delivers lane control and steering assistant and active side collision protection.

Another standard feature is the parking assistant which includes a rear view camera and a 3-D view of the vehicle’s surrounding area.

As should be expected the new X7 has an impressive interior and lots of helpful kit, including the firm’s live cockpit professional with a full digital instrument cluster.

The vehicle also uses the iDrive controller to select driving modes including the ability to drive off-road easily. Drivers can also adjust the air suspension settings too.

There’s also an electrically operated panoramic glass sunroof fitted as standard with electric sun blinds as an option for the rear door windows.

There’s also LED lighting spread across the glass roof to generate a display that looks just like a starlit sky to enjoy.

The new BMW X7 is an impressive offering and prices start at £72,155 OTR.
