FVL’s time with the Suzuki Swift

Stealthy hatchback delights.

Suzuki-Swift

Here at FVL towers, we love a swiss army knife, a jack of all trades, an all-rounder, a renaissance man…you get the idea.

So you can imagine our disappointment when our new Suzuki Swift demonstrator arrived. Although lovely, we felt we weren’t precisely ticking all the boxes. But as it turns out, we were mistaken.

To be fair, it wasn’t just any Swift but the top spec. SZ-5 All Grip. As the All Grip badge suggests, this small, unassuming hatchback has an all-wheel-drive system and top specification. You can see the imaginary boxes being ticked as we go.

Being the SZ-5 model you get features from much more expensive vehicles, like a reversing camera with rear sensors and keyless entry. We offer the entire Swift range and currently have special offers on the SZ-L and Sport models in our Suzuki Swift car leasing offers.

Driving the Swift around is very pleasing. It handles solidly in the corners, and the all-wheel drive system makes light of the wet autumn mornings in Glasgow, cutting through motorway puddles with ease. Equally, it’s dark when leaving the house, so the all-LED headlights are a welcome addition and give an almost daylight feel to driving in the early mornings.

Space for a small car is, quite honestly, amazing. At 265 litres, the boot isn’t the biggest in class, but it is suitable for a car of this size and is both a good shape and deep too. You can fit someone near six feet tall in the rear without too much of a squeeze; anyone around 5ft 10in tall or under will have ample head and knee room.

Consumption across the range is excellent, and all engines have a 12v mild-hybrid system built in to help maximise economy. This All Grip version is the thirstiest model, as you would expect, being heavier and with the all-wheel drive system, but we were returning just under 50mpg doing combined town and motorway work.

From a bit of a slow start, we’ve developed a fondness for this very spacious, frugal and easy-to-live with little car. It’s fun to drive, and has great equipment levels and ample room for passengers.
